I'm in the process of installing my Wheeler's 3 leaf progressive AAL and I plan on keeping the overload. I trimmed the inside of the overload guide bracket to allow for the bracket on the AAL to fit. I didn't trim the outside guide because it sticks further out and is the attachment point for the ebrake cable.

My question is, would there be any issue with cutting the rivet off of the AAL guide bracket and welding it to the AAL? The reason I ask is that it looks like the rivet will prevent the AAL from flattening against the overload and I'm concerned about having that pressure point in between the overload and the AAL.

To restate, I want to weld the AAL bracket to the AAL leaf so that I can remove the rivet and allow it to sit flatter. Pics below, I can try to explain better if this doesn't make sense.

do not weld to spring, it will change the properties of the spring
the aal should go higher in the pack, just under the one that is longer and above the one that's shorter

The bottom one is the overload, I don't think you're supposed to put anything below the overload.

That’s not what he was asking.

OP, remove the guide from the 3 leaf aal. The guides on the overload will keep them in alignment all the same. It’s only on there for those that don’t use the overload.
