I read on a thread which i cant find anymore where someone was gonna remove there alcan aal from the rear and go to .85 setting up front to get there good ride back . this thread kinda got me confused i would have thought this set up would be good according to most threads. just trying to see if this was just a one isolated incident or something i need to avoid. thanks

that'll be good. it will be a little stiffer than stock, but a lot of people (including me) prefer that over the too-soft stock ride.

It's just stiff. I have 5100 all the way up and a 2in AAL. Very stiff and unforgiving. It's not unbearable. But on rutted out gravel roads, it sucks. The only way I've been able to combat it is to air down on surfaces I should never have to air down on. Now at highway speeds it's not to terribly bad. The bump steer gets old but those two might not have any relation. Just slow constant cycling of the suspension is where I notice my self hating it. I like the way my truck sits, but I see myself redoing the front lift in the very near future. If I was gonna do it over I'd at a minimum do 5100's and a lift coil of some sort.

With that being said, the setup you've mentioned above will most likely be softer, with a heavier truck and what not.

From what I've read AAL stiffens up the back. And 5100s set at 1.75 ride very well just a little less body roll over stock. Unless you have TRD offload springs then I've heard the 5100s ride real rough because of preloading the progressive rate coils.

I'll be installing my 5100s this weekend at 1.75 front and rear has TSB from factory

dropping the psi in your tires while off roading is airing down.

And lift spring like eibach 3in lift spings
Any of the OME 88x springs. Where you would leave your 5100 at 0 and get your lift out of the spring instead of the shock.

are we saying its a better option to do zero on the 5100's up front and get a 885 spring or a spring other than the stock prerunner spring to do the lift. if so what type of spring should i get with a stock height setting on the 5100's. Just trying to be sure i kinda get thing right for the first suspension upgrade. thank again.

Yes using a coil to lift is better than using just 5100's due to the springs being preloaded. That is where alot of the stiff ride comes from. That's what the OME lifts are. Good shocks and a lift coil. Yes it'll be stiffer than stock but should be softer than 5100's. AFAIK.

Agree, I'm at 1.75 up front and AAL on non TSB. Love the ride. Little stiffer but also tighter. I prefer it to stock.

There's no lift at all on the rears so there's is no "0" setting.

Smoother ride will be eibach or ome coils imho and experience, paired with 5100s at "0" or ome (if getting ome coils).

As for the rear, a progressive aal (icon or wheelers) will be smoother than any single aal due to 3 thin leaves instead of 1 think leaf.

    Been there.

I was planning the same thing as you OP.

My original plan of 5100 with AAL got overturned because of the concern about the ride quality.

I decided to just save up a few extra bucks and wait to get an OME suspension lift.

Exactly the same as stock rake. about 1.25 to 1.5 inches. I have a topper on order so I wanted a little rake to make up for any sag I might get from camper.

    I have two 2nd Gen Tacoma's.

1st truck is an '07 DCSB Sport w/ 5100's all the way around, stock front coils, set at 1.75", ride rite air bags in the rear.

2nd truck is a '12 DCSB OR w/ 5100's all the way around set 0" in front w/ Eibach coils and ride rite air bags in the rear, 1/4" spacer to eliminate lean.

Both trucks I run about 15psi in the bags on the street with no load. This elevates the rear about an inch so there is less rake than stock, but still a little. Ride in both trucks is a little stiffer, but not bad. Set air bags to about 3psi when I air down the tires for off road. The Eibach coils on the '12 seem to take big hits much better than the 5100's set at 1.75". Mostly notice the difference off road, on road, no big difference...

    HTH
