Had my wobbley upper driver side idler changed out at a hair over 1000 k. Not talking a few hundred thou here, but closer to 3/16" and getting worse over time. Bearing was shot already. Was chewing the the belt pretty good too. As I was able to show them by the black rubber skid marks that kept showing up on the idler roller surface, in different places. Documented with lots of close up photo's taken over the few days , while waiting for my Dealer appointment. I insisted they change the belt out as well, which they did. All the other idlers including the tensioner are running true with zero side lash.

So the new pulley took care of wobbly issue??
If not, that would concern me

About 1 hour. It was during my 5k maintenance. Part was ordered and replaced 4 days later. I dropped the truck off in the morning for the part change. Took them like 4-5 hours

    Dude that's a bummer juk!
But, the noise seems to be prevalent across other car lines, and some ppl think fuel has something to do with it.
I can't say I have that noise yet and I'm at 9k+ on the clock, I do have injector cleaning cycle noise, but I only use one top tier regular gas/brand.

IDK if that's it, I honestly don't know and doubt it, but have a look at the video below and see.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

I wonder what would happen if they weren't changed out. Part failure with no effect on the truck?

My only option now is to go through my states lemon law process.
It pretty sad,I am a master tech for another line and this wouldn't happen in my dealer.
Toyotas customer service is by far the worst experience I have had.

Yes sir. 2000 + K now and no more wobble or skid marks on the idler since they've replaced it.

I had the pulley above the AC compressor replaced and the new pulley wobbled as much as the old one. And with the engine off, I can wiggle the pulley from side to side. I don't think this is normal. I live too far from a dealer to make it worth while to go there and have it checked again unless it gets worse. I wonder if Toyota got a bad lot of "out of spec" pulleys including the replacements?

    Mostly stuff I built.
I started buying ethanol free gasoline and the chirp went away on mine. Tech at the dealer enlightened me on this. After the second tank of 87 oct with no ethanol sound was gone.

That's not an option for me, there's only 1 dealer here in Southern Nevada that carries this and its 110 Octane! lol

If that didnt work then take it in and have it replaced. My dealer was gonna do my high pressure fuel pump for me but I cancelled after using the lucas treatment and switching to chevron gas as it went away and hasnt come back

go to a different dealer. noise is not normal. Even if it chirps its only annoying at worst. You gonna buy a different truck over chirping? You know that the chirp is happening with many other brands of vehicles. Its not just a Toyota thing.

No im not going to buy another truck because of the chirping.
I'm going to buy another truck because the customer service by far the worst in the auto industry.Service rep says its normal,Toyota is going to stand by it..
