I got the chirp then I switched from 87 octane to shell v-power (91 octane I believe) and it was gone. I plan on filling up with shell 87 octane again to see if it comes back... I'll report my findings to this thread

    3500 miles by the way

Actually this is my first Toyota but thanks for the concern, well technically my second in the same sense that your wife drives a toyota. My lexus has never made noises like this.

Going to try the additive first and then I will switch to 91. Thanks for the advice!

So... why is everyone trying to change fuel. STOP. I got my high pressure fuel pump changed out about 10k miles ago. Ive run diff gas from Miami Florida to Kodiak Alaska and the chirp never came back. Get the damn pump changed out and stop trying to work around it with diff octane and fuels.....

2016 TRD Off Road - I have the chirp at idle as well and it started at about 300 miles after I drove about 100 miles on a single trip. I now have 1,800 miles on the truck. The chirp is not consistent but seems to happen after warm up. The noise sounds just like the attached videos where the high pressure fuel pump is the issue. I called my local Toyota Service department and they said that they have replaced a few fuel pumps due to the issue and it fixed one of them but did not on the other one. He also said that other vehicles have this issue and I could wait for an improved part. I told him that it seems like Toyota has been aware of this for several years and the chances of that is slim and he agreed. I have an appointment for 9/7/16 to see if a 'Master Mechanic' will agree that the fuel pump is the issue. Note: The service technician said I should not try the Lucas Oil as it could cause other damage and that they may not cover the repairs if it did.

Hi skipatrol2219, I feel you pain and based on your statements that you may get a different truck. Through the years I have had Toyota Pickups (6 of them) and then in 2011 I purchased a fifty thousand dollar Jeep Grand Cherokee Off Road edition with a HEMI. At 12,000 the engine started miss firing and GM would not fix it until it showed an error code at about 100 miles later and then there where the several recalls and shock issues that made me trade it in on another Toyota at 26,000 miles. Hopefully, I can get this issue resolved and not have an accumulated similar experience that I had with Jeep.

I wish you luck,I really do.
I have been working for another auto company for 30 plus years.
The company doesn't sell trucks but they also don't treat customers this way either.

Thanks for all the good info! I just stumbled onto this site, as this is my first post.

I too have the chirping sound from day 1 of my purchase. A month ago, I took in my 2016 TRD Sport 4x4 manual trans, for its 5k mile maintenance, but I made the mistake of saying the chirping sound was a whirling sound (wish I read this thread before going). The chirp sound can be heard at low idle, all the time. So replicating the chirp sound was not an issue. The service tech wrote up the order and said the mechanics would look at it. When they returned my truck, they said it was a normal sound due to the new Atkinson cycle engine. My gut feeling said there has to be a reason for this sound, it's not normal, but I had no evidence or info to say otherwise. So I had to take their word for it. At least my complaint is on record. I will again, complain about the chirping sound on my 10k mile service. But this time I will mention the "high pressure fuel pump". Thanks again!

You want to come change it for me? There is 3 Toyota dealers in southern Nevada and all 3 claim it's normal operation. My truck is currently sitting at a dealer in so.cal getting looked at again. So your advice is really just as useless as the dealers in my area. But I'm glad they worked it out for you

I might have a try a fuel additive package that I used to run in my car and see how the Tacoma likes it

You can also cool your tone guy... I created this thread to make people aware of this problem. I had the problem, had it resolved by having the unit changed out. Fuel additives are just a temp solution. Get it changed out.. Don't get pissed at me because you have dealerships that can't seem to troubleshoot problems and would rather send you on your way. I ran into that issue with one dealership and I went to another. Do they have other Tacomas there? Have them start one up. I bet it won't chirp.

You can quit being sensitive bro. I don't care who started the thread I'm here for the useful info which is definetly not coming from the originator. If I can get a temporary fix until I can find a dealer to actually fix the problem then that my choice. Drive your truck, I got mine covered

On a side note for the people here looking for solutions, I switched Shell stations and still used 87 but the chirp is gone. Interesting that it does it with one Shell station but not another? Need more testing but don't think I will be using the first station anymore
