Your question has been answered with the 3rd gen lol, CSC has no backlight and the fog lights are now on the turn signal stalk.

I could be wrong but I've heard that using the clutch/start/cancel feature puts a lot of strain on the starter, might be why the manual says only to use it when needed.

One is turning over an engine the other is rolling an entire truck. So I can see the logic behind it. I haven’t needed it in the 3rd gen yet, just once and only for a function test to show the domestics at work.

Put a socket on your crank bolt with the truck in 1st low and turn it. It's pretty easy to move.

The thrust bearing is inside the engine located next to the main crank bearings. I think you're refering to the throw out bearing.

:facepalm:As I typed that I was like “there’s now way...” I’ve had quite a day, working with “wet” thrust bearings no less.

I literally use it every time I start my ‘17 SR and have been for almost a year straight with no ill effects. Granted, this habit is when I’m in neutral 99% of the time.

One less time I’m depressing the clutch at or after startup is a win in my book.

Side note: good to see all the MT guys in here.

had a coworker in my truck today and as I was rowing gears shifting around 3200-3500 like I always do he says “not bad for a v6.” (He’s a Chevy douche lol)

I chuckled. Proof the 2.7 ain’t too much of a slouch when you drive her right lol

I can vouch for this... It is a great tool to have available.

Yes - of course - it puts more strain on the starter than using it to only START the engine... But it works. I've gone MILES on the starter up hills using it to move the truck for minutes at a time... and assumed the starter would burn out at some point. Progress in the right direction was more important in that occasion.

I was quite surprised that the starter Survived without damage and stayed on the truck for a long time after... I would not do this when not needed - obviously - and I would recommend allowing the starter to cool down now and then.

But, yes - in a pinch, the trucks starter can be a lifesaver...

Long live simplicity and Manuals! - Try doing that with a modern push start button and an automatic...
