Don't need it IMO. Unless you like spending money.

+1, finance guys will do the hard sell and try to convince you to buy. I just turned my head and told him to try.

Not quite the question I was asking. lol. A friend of mine was able to buy his factory warranty for his avalon for about 1/2 price by buying from some out of state dealer a few years ago. I figured there must of been some sort of place that most people bought theirs. anyway, nevermind :)

Anyone telling you not to get it is just plain crazy.... It would of saved me thousands when my POS started falling apart. I was a moron and thought "I'm buying a Toyota - what do I need that for" and this Tacoma has been the biggest POS truck I have ever owned with more problems than my previous 2 vehicles I drove for 15 years and over 300k combined.

Even if you spend 2k it's worth it because Toyota corporate are slime balls and won't cover any TSB's without it.

Things I could of had covered if I had extended:
    New engine
    Both lower control arms w/bushings
    Tie rods
Shorted out factory fog light harness
    Chirping blower motor
    Every pulley
    Starter
    Rear Main seal leak
    Transfer case leak
    AC compressor

Now I'm just waiting for the frame to rust out next.... that should be fun to fix on my own with zero dealer support.

Try to work it in the final price or walk, I got the 100,000 bumper to bumper for 1200 instead of 1900. I trust the dependability of the older simple tacos but the new one has a lot of computer controlled electronics and I just feel better.

I think that person had to stop selling out of state....

To the OP and others, the extended warranty is insurance, nothing more or less. If it's used, worth it, if not, well it's not. Personally I consider myself self-insured in this aspect and do not buy them. I figure failures are not common and I assume worst case is an engine or tranny replacement on my dime. Considering I have never bought one over decades of cars/trucks and never wished I had.

For this to work though, you do need to ensure you have some resources to back you up in the event of a problem. If not, it may be worth it for you. I know many people who buy them just for the peace of mind.

One way to look at it is figure the monthly cost of the warranty and then save that each month. May not be much but if you come across something not covered you have some money to put towards fixing it.

For me, the dealer I bought from (Autonation) offer a lifetime power train warranty, so I didn't get any extra.
I know the power train warranty will not cover everything, does cover some major parts.

I live in CA and bought my Toyota Platinum Warranty last year from Jerry Johnson at Midwestern Superstore in K.C. I have purchased 2 contracts from Jerry and 4 overall via internet over the last few years. I bought for peace of mind, resale, refundable,I keep vehicles a long time, etc., but primarily internet pricing was at least 50% less than dealers quote. My zero deductible 8 year 75000 mile warranty was $625. I think thete has been a recent change in Toyota's policy on internet sales for their VSCs. I found Jerry very reputable, another name mentioned on TW a lot was Troy Dietrich (or something close to that) in I believe Mass. You could call Jerry, cell is 620 664 8844 and see what is up nowadays, also I would call Troy. You can confirm any VSC info by calling Toyota Financial Services at 800 228 8559 (I confimed info and my VSC were legit before I bought from Jerry). I have a feeling internet sales have stopped, but let us know. For me it's worth the effort to get if price is right.

The finance guy I dealt with wouldn't budge on the price of the warranties and they were outrageous to boot with the best being over an extra 200$/mo.

I had mine factored into my initial purchase price. I end up paying around an extra $20 a month for my warranty which is for four years or 45k miles, whichever is first. For a used truck with nearly 100k on it, I settled. Covers the entire power train, and steering, front suspension, brakes, seals/gaskets, electrical and AC. Also got the typical rental car goodies.

I'm not saying I got the best deal by any means, but I had the extra money and my monthly payment was low enough as it is.

What year is your truck? Are you really hard on it? Or, do you just have really bad luck?
