Acton Toyota will sell you extended warranty for something like $100 over cost.
My dealer wanted $3200 for 125,000 mile, Acton Toyota sold it to me for $1700.

I can't remember the lady's name, but just ask for the extended warranty dept.

Its really all about the deal, some warranties are crap some are great. I had a buddy get a bumper to bumper extended and it really came to use.

I also had a buddy that bought a used 2008 Audi and got the extended warranty, except there was a catch, it was a shitty warranty. That car was in and out of the shop so many times, and the warranty NEVER covered it. He ended up selling the car 16 months after he bought it owing MORE on his loan than he purchased the car for, all because of the warranty.

If you are smart, get a good one for a decent price I would say its a wash. I personally have a 2006 Tacoma, no warranty and have had zero huge issues. I maintain my rig myself and take really good care of it (Except for beating it on the trails). The only things that have broken are due to my driving in places I probably shouldnt have been with my modest mods.

Like you said, you are the guy that wants the peace of mind, just make sure you actually have it.

It's a gamble. I've used mine 50% of the time I have bought new cars. Now I just buy certified used. They come with the 100,000 mile warrantee. If you can get it for around $1,100 bucks+ or- I would buy it. Start calling around now. Many times you can buy through other dealers at half the price the ( finance Guy) is willing to sell it for. Many people think the negotiations stop with the sales person. If you don't get the price you want for the warrantee ask him to drop the interest rate.

Not warranty advice, but look closely at the frame. If you have any concerns move on. I didn't.

If you are unable to buy over internet/out of state you could ask Jerry for his pricing/cost for the vsc you wanted. Obviously prices increase with years and mileage but it's fairly easy to find out cost. Pure guess on my end but I imagine he priced about $25 over cost. Toyota vsc should be less than other manufacturers as they don't include services for lock out, dead battery, out of gas, etc.(when I bought last year). I bought vsc for my wife's Murano last year and paid a lot more than my Tacoma but rationalized by knowing I was getting auto club features also. In talking to the guy that sold me vsc for Murano I was bitching and he was listening/almost laughing because there is about 5 minutes of paperwork for these. Not to be to naive or idealistic but when you pay $25-40000 for vehicle and want a vsc too bad they won't mark it up $100-200, maybe more people would buy. Pricing is all over the place and really high on these and the finance guys have all the tools and tricks to take advantage of the unwary and uneducated buyer. A few years ago a Honda finance guy swore to me I couldn't buy over internet, he was making nothing on $2000 + vsc, his kids were starving, etc. I told him he could make some money on me but don't kill me and he just went off. I bought vsc from East Coast for 45% of his "best offer, only today".Anyway let us know what you find out.
