About to give up on tacoma.

Just spent $1200 on aftermkt top of line brakes/rotors. Bought the orange virus tune. Its no tundra for towing thats for sure. My trailer is 5k lbs which is right at the borderline when you add all kinds of crap. Orange virus helped but its the breaking part that scares the bajesus out of me. After having new aftermarket brakes installed I accidentally flipped a switch with my knee while driving and lost the trailer brakes on a small hill and even with the HD brakes they started smoking after just 20 yards of going down this little hill. I am thinking good god, what happens if i am in middle of nowhere on a hot day and the trailer brakes give out? Would a Tundra make all that big a difference?

Yes, any full size truck will do better than the taco pulling that kind of weight.

 

So.... you’re giving up on the Tacoma because your knee turned something off and contributed to the problem?

get a tundra. Towing at the “max capacity” is ok but it shouldn’t be done all the time, just saying.

 

20 yards is mighty quick to smoke brakes.

 

Never buy a vehicle that will be at max of anything. Alway buy a vehicle that will be in the middle of capacity. I went from a Tacoma to a Tundra for exactly that reason. Good luck.

Seems like your needs are greater that what the truck can handle, plain and simple. Not the Taco's fault, go get a big truck made for towing big shit.

 

I'm resisting the urge to post the silliness I've towed with my other, disc-brakes-on-all-four-corners truck.

 

Bringing a knife to a gunfight. Move on to the correct size truck.
