Been shopping for a TT and reading threads like this to get an idea of what weight range I should be looking in. Then I was stopped at an intersection and someone heading in the other direction was pulling a trailer I had written off with a Hyundai Santa Fe. I guess there’s no Santafeworld.com to straighten his ass out.

The Toyota Tacoma was rated to tow 6400 lbs and it will do just that and safely. People, on the other hand are not always willing or able to handle it. I tow the maximum with my truck regularly and don't have any problems what so ever. I have a 7000 lb rated tandem axle 20 ft flatbed, a 16 ft tandem axle machine hauler and 20 ft tandem axle RV trailer. All have electric brakes that work great and have never had any problems stopping. If you turned off your controller with your knee then you need a new controller.

If I had to pull a heavy load regularly, I sure has hell would not be in my little Tacoma, I would be in a Tundra. Wrong vehicle for your needs OP

Could be something wrong with these fancy new brakes or with their install.
maybe they were brand new and are now bedded in.
For all we know, nothing is wrong with the brakes and whoever installed them had oil/grease in areas they shouldn't and the heat cooked that off.

I have replaced and upgraded many sets of brakes in 20+ years. I need to know what brakes were this expensive as well.

The 1st Gen: All pro 3” lift (650 lbs coils, expedition rears with bilstiens),Timbren rear bumpstops, ubolt flip, diff drop, carrier bearing drop, 33’s on beadlocks ,ARB Bumper, winch, hand throttle, ARE canopy, roof bars, poly bushings all around minus the body mounts. The 2nd Gen: Leveling kit, roll up tonneau cover. 265/75/16’s
Just go slow and don’t expect to be able to stop like you would be able to with an empty pickup. Unless you are doing it ALL the time, then get a tundra or other capable 1/2 ton.

Nobody with a priority of towing should be in a compact pickup. Weight and wheelbase rules that roost.

Here’s some of why what works for towing in the UK (and Europe) doesn’t work in the US:

Your dad may not have bitched about that load in Sussex or wherever y’all were, but he never tried that combo going up and down the front range of the Rockies. Hell West Virginia has higher mountains and tougher hills than the Uk. Higher speed limits too. Campers in the US tend to be larger and heavier as well, since we have bigger vehicles to pull them.

Yeah one trip up and back down the continental divide with a big tow load can put the fear of god in you

That scenario is exactly why I keep my 1995 Ram 2500 diesel around. It's a little rough on the eyes but no problem at all towing anything. Happy shopping!

That's the exact statement the salesman gave my father-in-law the day he bought that Ram 2500. Still chugging along!!
