I thought I was a Subaru guy. I like to go against the grain a bit so for the last 20 years have not owned a pick up, which is unusual for a man up here in Alberta. My wife works in the vehicle industry so when shopping for my last outback she had me looking at a 2014 Tacoma she had access to. I went with the Subaru again, but a seed was planted. I'm a skier and cyclist and sometimes need to load a motorcycle into a truck but she can get me short term use through work. Lately I've been thinking a truck makes sense for me. the other day she called and said she had two Tacoma's come in. Both black, one a 2015 extra cab sport with 15000 km, the other a 2016 with leather /sunroof, no hood scoop(not sure of exact trim or how it was ordered) with 13000 km. I'm going to buy one of them, just deciding which based on what I can learn here and final pricing which comes tomorrow. Either should be a good deal due to her connection. Have a couple friends that own Taco's and like them. I'm enjoying the research here, great site! Any feedback regarding my model year decision is welcome.
    Best Regards,
    Gary

I sold a Subaru Outback to buy my Tacoma. Best decision ever! Not that the Subaru was bad, but the Tacoma is just that much better. Just one example of better is this weekend at the home store. I picked up a couple of bags of manure for the yard and threw them in the back. I'd do the same thing with the outback, and then had to smell shit all the way home. Others will weigh in with 15 vs 16 options. If it were me I'd go with the 15 because cheaper and the last year of the second gen and most of the bugs are worked out vs the first year of the third gen 2016.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Personally, I'd go for the Limited with sunroof but be prepared for the tranny shifting like mad man all the time and you'll be good

My vote is on the 15. I was in your shoes about a year ago. I went with the 2015. Got a better deal on it, I think the look better, and I enjoyed the test drive the 15 over the 16.

There is a reflash but some people don't see a difference. Some people do. It's a toss up.

Wife brought home the 2015 for me to test drive. Nice truck. The black shows a few small surface scratches that I'm sure will polish out. Tuns out it has 18000 km, 6000km more than the 16 which equtes to about a dollar per km in price difference to get the 16 limited. Will test drive it in the next day or so.IMG_1142.jpgIMG_1139.jpg

So I test drove the 16 today, again, very nice truck. Forgot to take pictures but it is a black limited. Brown leather, sunroof, JBL, nicer wheels, interior seems roomier than the Gen 2. Overall the new styling is nice and I think I prefer the hood without the scoop. Got it out on the highway and into cruise, engine held 2k rpm up a gradual incline doing 110 kph( approx. 75 mph). Did shift down and went to 3k once up a shorter, somewhat steeper incline out of a curve and onto an overpass. Did not seem like anything to crazy. Yes it was different but I wouldn't say either felt "better" than the other. The 16 felt overall a little more refined. It's $5000CAD more money and 5000 km less on the clock. Obviously the 16 will have more warranty remaining. $5 grand buys a couple years worth of fuel and a nice set of wheels and winter tires. Decisions!
