hey guys, I’m about to try and pull out two small stumps with my taco. I’ll be pulling on pavement, so grip shouldn’t be an issue. However, I had a quick question...should I throw it in 4x4 anyway? Or should I just say screw it and see what happens. I know you don’t want to use 4x4 on dry but I believe that’s just for turning. Is it ok to do this if I keep the wheels straight?

    Here’s one of the stumps:

I'd put it in 4lo and try it gently. If it doesn't come easy, start digging. Unless they're rotted, stumps are notoriously easy to underestimate.

Ok I’ll be gentle with it then. I’ve never pulled a stump before and I’d like to avoid tearing up my truck. Thanks!

don't break your truck. Even big f250 stuperduties have some trouble pulling stumps. dig a little first.

The only reason I was thinking my little truck would be able to do it is because the stump flexes/moves if I step on it.

I know nothing about stump pulling though so I guess I should shut up and just start digging

I had a palm tree I tried to pull out. dug a lot, even cut into the base at an angle. I could rock it around just pushing on it. Got in the taco and the bastard didn't budge any more than I could push it. I had to borrow a friend's tractor, and even THAT had trouble!

This. BUT- use just a rim if you can, one without a tire. The rim will keep the chain/strap centered and you wont struggle with getting it setup.

That guy's a genius, turning lateral force into vertical using a spare wheel as a fulcrum. Saving that one for the memory bank.

I pulled a decent sized apple tree stump out a few years back. The tree fell over in a wind storm, so 1/2 the stump was already out of the ground. Taco pulled it out surprisingly easy.

Just remember to let the slack out of your cable before pulling on it.

I tried pulling a rhododendron once... Spun all four tires on pavement. Sis tried with her Raptor and broke my tow strap at barely over an idle

How are you going to attach a rope to that short of a stump? Seems like the rope will slip off the top as soon as it starts to flex and you’ll get a dent in the tailgate
