ABS/BRAKE AND SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING

I RECENTLY HAD MY TACOMA SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE CODE SAID THE ABS ACTUATOR WAS BAD. I CHANGED IT OUT WITH A REFURBISHED ONE (AS A NEW ONE COST $1,400.00!) AND IT WAS FINE FOR ABOUT 20 MILES AND THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING. I CHANGED THE SPEED SENSOR ALSO. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS ISSUE AND CAN ADVISE ME OF WHAT MY NEXT MOVE SHOULD BE?

What exactly is the CEL Code?

 

You will need a scanner that can read ABS codes. Mass Marketer auto parts stores might be able to read for free. Like jimmyh said, w/o a code, you don't know what's wrong.

 

Thanks guys for reaching out. I had a Toyota Tech scan the check engine light and his results said: Brake Actuator ASY/SKID ECU

 

You know that is the ECU on the ABS System right?

Thanks Jimmy...Is the ECU a separate part from the brake actuator or is it built into it?

 

It is replaceble on its own if you know what you are doing.

It really isn't hard at all and could save you a bunch of money if you can locate a junkyard part in working order.

I took my truck to a mechanic that had a scanner that Lester suggested and sure enough, it was the right wheel speed sensor! Thank you Jimmy and Lester, your info saved me a $1,400 dollar mistake at the dealership!!!!
