ABS Fuse

    The under hood fuse block on my 2001 V-6 has a spot for an ABS fuse but no fuse in it. The cover states that there should be a fuse there but it is empty. (The other empty spots are blank on the fuse block legend.) Should it be empty or do you think it was removed for a reason? Thanks!

    4.10 gears, sliders, and lots of buttons.
    Your truck may have only come with a rear ABS.....Might not need a fuse.

    My truck doesn't have any ABS, but the fuse box still has a open spot for it as well as a label on the cover. Do you have ABS at all?

    ABS wasn't standard in the 2001 model year - it was an option.

    That in cab switch would probably be nicer. do you have a reference maybe? I wonder how you would go about that....

    Edit: Googled this on a chevy forum ABS Switchseems like the concept should be pretty much the same for any vehicle i guess.

    I think I saw the DIY instructions on a website for my old vehicle, fullsizebroncos.com. It was pretty common for those guys to either make switches or disable ABS all together. I agree that it should be pretty much the same for any vehicle. I'm certainly not an electronics expert but I can't imagine being more than identifying the proper wires, disconnecting the battery, and tapping in appropriately rated switches and wires that reach the cab. It should be easy to keep the cost down to about $10 too. If you do it and make a nice write up with pictures, I bet you could get yourself a spot on the cheap mods page (if it's not there already).

    My Bronco was disabled all together because most of its use was off road. I can't bother doing it to my Taco, because in doing so it would also disable my ATRAC (among other traction systems). ATRAC rocks, so I definitely don't want to lose it.

    yeah i'm in the process. i found an inline 50 amp fuse holder so i should be able to work it in the fuse box under the hood. i didnt like how they went in the cab's fuse box because it turned off other things like cruise control and some other things... i would rather it be only affecting the ABS. looks like that 50 amp fuse under the hood is where its at.

    one question though..in the pics you reall couldnt tell what wires connected to what.. i take it the hot part of the fuse runs to the inline fuse wire and then to the pos part of your switch. then form the not hot part of the fuse box a wire just goes straight to the toggle. This is how i take it. maybe ill burn the toy down trying to find out hahahahah

    Again, I'm far from being an electrician but try identifying and double checking the wires by checking current with power on, off, fuse in, fuse out, etc. to make sure you're tapping into the right ones.

    hmmm that is a whole different route than others have gone. what would be the difference of doing that mod or the "inline fuse" mod from the 50 amp abs fuse under the hood to a switch? just looking for advice. seems like less wire running around and there is a fuse being used.

    I am not sure if my truck has the ABS option...it is a 2001 V-6 5 spd TRD 4x4...

    Pros/Cons of having the ABS fuse out for off-roading?

    ^ with ABS in during off roading your brakes wont engage because the computer assumes your wheels are locking. You'll slide for a long distance. With ABS off, in sandy or heavy dirt terrain, heavy braking is more effective because a) ABS wont cut off the brakes and b) when your wheels lock up, it will dig into the ground, effectively stopping your truck in its tracks...its really fun!
