I dont know. Could have been from anywhere really. I live off a gravel road with a bunch of trees, so it could have happened there. I dont remember the light coming on after a trip

2 places of damage, and toyota was clear on them believing it was cause by debris. Fist location, behind the rear front drivers tire. Second location, rear drivers side tire. the write up only has it being in the rear, but the tech stated both places

So, hate to pop back up on this thread, but since this is where the story begins, Im going to continue on from here.

I received my truck back, ABS codes went away. 2 days after receiving the truck back, CEL fired. The CEL is P0456, Small evac leak.

I called Toyota, schedule an appointment at the dealership. They conduct a smoke test, after trying to pin the cost on me (they dropped my gas tank to replace the frame harness, who do you think caused it). Then , they say it was my gas cap. Replaced Gas cap, free of charge, that's nice of them. Codes still exist. Then the tech says that it is my filler neck, and they order that part (install and part free of charge). Schedule install for 4 days later. Bring truck to get install, and ask for a transmission drain and fill (this would be at my charge). They do the filler neck, and then proceed to attempt a trans flush, that I didn't ask for. They ask if its ok to move my winch control box, which is slightly in the way of the tech getting to the location to conduct the flush. I say sure. The tech does not disconnect the winch power control box from the battery, then grounds out my winch, exploding the box. Looks at me and says, "well, I'm glad I asked you if I could move it"- like you blowing up my winch is my fault.

At this point, I just want my truck so I don't have to deal with them. I figure, hey, let me just leave, Ill try to replace the winch solenoid, and call it a day, and never return to this dealership.

Well, the Evap code (PO456) returned today. I've got an appointment to go on Thursday, and now I want my winch replaced, because I've had it up to my ears dealing with them.

The question here is, at what point to I go to another shop, and try and get toyota to pay for it? I will update this thread on how this entire thing plays out.

Yeah man. I'd be pissed as hell too. I got into a screaming match w one of the service dudes because they lied about checking the trans oil. After we calmed down, we befriended each other haha. Sometimes u gotta push back a bit.

Last time I was there, I explained that just like they have an hourly rate, so do I. And Im not charging you for my time, but I could.

I dont want to deal with a lawyer right now. Considering the only reason Im going there is because of an EVAP leak code that didnt exist before I had them work on my truck

Seems like dealerships are hurting bad after this last year or so now...so let's break more customer stuff and charge them for it seems like a crappy backup plan.

I have been dealing with this the last few times I've been in for state inspection, alignment, TSB checks...they're almost worse than doctor "appointment times."

Don't get me started!! I honestly wanted to send a bill for the 1 hour and 40 minutes I waited between the waiting room and the patient room prior to seeing the doctor for 11 minutes three weeks ago (granted it's an specialist ortho...but at least tell me he's running an hour+ behind...at 08:20 NO LESS!)
