I didn't want to hijack Croms thread but I on his thread I read that the mod is 100% reversible.
How is that possible if your puncturing a wire with a t-splice?

This mod won't affect insurance in any way even in a accident because abs are not mandatory correct?

If I experience the pedal to the floor on a washboard dirt road could I flip the switch and instantly regain braking power?

I believe most t-splices are removable. Just cover the exposed wire with some electrical tape.

In the event of an accident, I definitely WOULD NOT mention to the insurance company that you modified the ABS in any way. ABS is required equipment on all new vehicles.

Yes, just flip the switch to deactivate ABS.

This is the part of the lengthy ABS discussion that intrigues me. I have yet to experience the ABS kicking in nor do I doubt the stories of others so I'm impartial as to how the ABS performs.

But I just can't help but think that you'd be exposing yourself to the risk of litigation if you were to ever end up in a wreck with anyone else finding out you had modified a safety feature on your vehicle.

I understand the counterpoint is that if you disable the ABS you are increasing your odds of avoiding the wreck all together. But that doesn't take into account all scenarios such as someone else hitting you or the chance you end up in an accident even with the ABS disabled.

I didn't read all 100+ pages of the other thread but would be curious if there are any stories about the legality of disabling your ABS...

If you modify your ABS and are involved in a wreck, you'd better bet the farm that the modification will be used against you at every turn. The other party/parties will use it to show your disregard for safety and possible fault. Your insurance company will use it to try to get out of covering you. Anyone who stands to gain anything from that modification will use it against you. I promise.

I agree completely which is why I won't be disabling my ABS.

It's only something I'm considering because in the winter I often drive over slushy snow covered mountain passes. I do however drive very cautiously in these situations and don't foresee any problems. I just don't want to be one of the guys who experiences the loss of brakes or worse dies because of it.

On the other hand I understand that any insurance company would not protect someone with this mod.

if the vehicle manufacturers would disable ABS when under 10 km/h (6mph) that would be great, don't think you'd skid out of control at that speed and that's where I have the problems on icy intersections

All I can say up north snow land you eyed a true snow tire. It helps but some conditions abs still goes off. Old non abs stop just fine. I have mod like it a lot.
