Hey guys, my first post. I recently (like 10 minutes ago) installed an LED 3rd brake light on my 07 taco and after the first start-up my ABS light came on... Don't think the 2 should be related. It's never been on in the year Ive owned it. I took it for a ride with some aggressive braking and nothing was triggered, all seemed normal and after cycling the key a few times the light shut off. I did pump the brakes right after the install while the truck was off but accessory on, to test the light's function. Just seeing if this sounds normal. I have a pretty good mechanical knowledge and know the ABS system shouldnt have anything to do with it but it kind of gave me a "the fuck??" moment. There's always great input on here so let me know if there's something I'm missing here. Thanks

How many times did you pump the brakes? Multiple times will discharge the ABS accumulator. I don't know the exact number though

It was probably a good 10-15 times. I was trying to see the reflection but ended up having my little boy stand in the bed so I could see it off him. The pedal was stiff by then.

    Reserected from the dead.
Put the old light back in and see if that light goes away. If it does, then the system thinks you have a light burn out. This is why we need resistors to fool the electrical system ECU.

    Please report back.

I'd say you just pumped the pedal to many times. Drive it a couple days and see if it comes back on

Well, started my day with abs light coming back on. I pulled the code and it's c1249 which is "open in stop light switch circuit". It is off when I start the truck but doesnt come back on until I use the turn signals (both sides). I hate having lights on my dash, not sure if I should just deal with it or put the stock one back in.

I was just going to deal with the light until I realized my cruise control was also affected by this so for the hell of it I threw in a resistor and BOOM, problem solved!

Hello, I hope you are well. I have the same problem in a 2006 Tacoma. A few days ago I installed the 3rd brake light in leds from Amazon and now when I put the signals to make a turn the abs light throws me and it scanned c1249 "open circuit in stop light switch circuit" Could you tell how it was that you put a resistor on it and solved the problem?

I bought an LED load resistor from oreilly auto parts. I installed one end of the resistor onto the positive wire using the wire connectors that came with the resistors. Then I attached the other end of it to the ground wire and mounted the resistor to the inside behind where the third brake light goes. It's a pretty easy process. Only thing to keep in mind is that resistors get hot so make sure it's not touching anything you don't want it to. Good luck

Did you use a 6 ohm 50w resistor? They are the most common but I have seen them with other specifications.
