Hi all, I replace the passenger side rear seal on my 2004 Tacoma today. After getting everything back together the ABS light was on. Code thrown was for the ABS sensor.

I took the connector apart cleaned with electrical cleaner put it back together and it's still on. My guess is I need a new sensor. Any comments or suggestions other than that would be welcome. Also what brand sensors would you suggest.

Everybody I talk to says those sensors are expensive as fuck! They also say get rid of ABS. Pull the fuse. I haven't done it yet though. Supposedly ABS sucks on 1st gens. Just hearsay!

    Thanks for the reply.

    Sensors priced $75-$161....

Wouldn't mind pulling the fuse, but think I need the system functioning for inspection. Kind of ironic as my rear brakes don't work and haven't since the truck was new. 300,000+ miles and only replaced the pads once because the shop said the pads fell off the shoe......

Never had the drums turned or replaced cause there's no wear. Wierd, huh?

    Reserected from the dead.
Not really weird, actually pretty common. Almost all 2st gens had leaky rear axle seals. The drums and shoes would get coated with gear lube, thus never wearing out. Mine went 300k with no shoe replacement.

Check for broken wires to the ABS sensor. Re solder back together if broke and ride on.

I have the ABS light on too from when I changed a CV axle and I hung the brake caliper up onto the UCA with a zip tie and it broke. Then it yanked the ABS sensor wire enough to make the light come on. But my anti lock brakes work fine. I tested them out after I did the Tundra brake mod. So it's just an annoying light on the dash. Plus if you pull the fuse, that light will be on, on the dash anyways.

I haven't had ABS since 01 on mine. I would pull the fuse.
