I’ve done a little research on this but no, I haven’t checked them. Good idea though. Looks like you have to rotate the tire (abs ring) while having the ohms meter attached to determine if it’s good/bad.

That will give you an a/c voltage pulse. But they should have a resistance you can check on the ohm setting. By checking a the connector under the seat you're checking the wires to the sensors also. I'm thinking the wire got pinched and severed by accident when working on the spings.

I just futzed around with my 01 Ranger 4X4 with an ABS issue. While this isnt a Tacoma, essentially ABS is ABS. My Ranger suffers from wheel speed sensor dropout. The magnet on one of the sensors is so weak that below 2 mph I get a false ABS application. Yours might have the same issue. If you dont have a oscillascope the only way to test this is to take the sensors out and see how hard the magnet holds a small screwdriver.

Parts came in today, and repainted the parking brake mechanism.
Parts #’s for the axle dust seals and rear end drain plug gaskets don’t match what’s on the bag...

Busy day guys, and hotter than four hundred hells in the garage!
Need some help. Got the passenger side axle removed. There was about a teaspoon of gear oil that came out that was past the seal.
Question is should there be that much play? No roughness felt and spins freely.
    I’ll post more later tonight.

To get the new seal in I used a leftover part of pvc pipe from a potato gun I made a few years back. You can see in the 2nd pic I had drilled out some holes to make the end of the potato gun look like a WW2 machine gun barrel.

Thanks for keeping this thread updated, I’m hoping you get it figured out. I’ve got a 1st gen with the ABS light on and my dad’s 1st gen has it too.

I haven't replaced the wheel bearings on these tacos before, but I have replaced a few wheel bearings over the years. I'm inclined to think that play is not supposed to be there when grabbing the drum and moving it as you were able to do in those videos.

I just rewatched again to make sure I was seeing and hearing it right. The sound really helps in this case. You don't see much play watching the vid but the sound helps, at least it helps watching the vid on a phone and with Android air buds:D

My abs was acting up when I first got the truck and would just release the brakes when I was trying to slow down. I just pulled the fuse and have never had it since lol, the light is always on though

Got the drivers side axle seal replaced, cleaned up around where the large dust seal inserts around the axle tube.
Now just waiting for the axle bearing parts to arrive later this week. I’m replacing the passengers side, but not the drivers side. The drivers side axle didn’t have near the amount of play the passengers side had.

Not much to report because I’m waiting on parts.
Cleaned up the LH axle/drum before reinstalling. Again, only replacing the axle seal and dust seal on the LH side.

Got the LH rear axle secured, and the 4 14mm bolts torqued to 50ft lbs. Also, installed the NEW Toyota LH ABS Sensor. Checked the tracking on the RH bearing, seals, etc., and they should arrive tomorrow or Monday.

    Parts came in!!
Took the axle and parts to Toyota this morning. The mechanic came out to make sure I had all the parts. Wouldn’t you know he said they cut the abs ring off so they have ordered one that should be here tomorrow.
I sure I wish Timmah was nearby! Just for them to replace the bearing, etc., is $150 (Yeah I know....dealer price).
Hope to get everything back tomorrow.

I know man, but I just don't have the room, and it would rarely get used. I watched Timmah's video on replacing the wheel bearing with abs about 3x debating on whether or not to get a HF Press.

Good Morning J A Y! It's an onion man! You start looking into one issue and you find something else. Had the ABS light not come on, I would not have replaced both rear seals or the passenger side wheel bearing. From all the research and reading posts, a lot of times an abs light is triggered by contamination (leaking seal) or if a wheel bearing is going bad. The passenger side was definitely leaking some, and there just seemed to be way to much play in the bearing hub assembly.
Was is all a waste.....no, I don't think so. Even the mechanic at Toyota that replaced the bearing said there was excessive play and he would replace it.
If I had the funds I'd go ahead and replace the drivers side now as well. Kinda like ball joints or tie rods, you hate to just replace one and not the other.
I tell you what's going to hurt my feelings is getting all this back together and the abs light still be on.:(

Picked up the passenger side rear axle with shiny new parts...expensive shiny new parts....and expensive labor.
Not really much to see by looking at the difference, but there is a considerable amount of difference in the play. Much tighter.
I included a pic of the invoice to give others an idea of how much they'll be charged. Keep in mind I took the axle in, so they didn't have to remove it. Guy that wrote up my ticket said that would have easily added another hour of labor or $100.
Also remember, that they had to cut the abs ring off, so on top of the parts I had already ordered, they charged for that and another retainer seal (my fault...left it at home).
This afternoon I hope to get the axle back in, torque the 4 14mm bolts to 50 ft lbs, replace with new gear oil, and bleed the brakes.
    Keep you all posted!!
