After the E break and ABS light came on I took my 2006 Tacoma to have it scanned on why. Mechanic says both my abs module and wheel sensor need replaced. Both simultaneously going bad seems strange. 750 bucks out the door seems pricey. Is that fairly common with our trucks? Any thoughts would be appreciated thanks!

ABS modules can get very expensive. I've sold some on GM products that can retail for over a grand. However, I haven't heard of this being a common problem on Tacomas or any other vehicle for that matter.

It seems weird that both simultaneously went bad...The lights all of a sudden went on after driving in snow for 3 hours. Dealer says abs modules rarely go wrong on our trucks, wheel sensor is common. Original mechanic that scanned the codes contradicts him and says abs modules going bad are very common. Any advice y'all?

Based on your 3 hour drive in the snow, I'll bet it's a sensor. Maybe some ice busted a connector or damaged the actual sensor. Just a guess, but I've been in the car repair business for a long time, and I have sold many more sensors than modules.

/\ agreed. The local shop says it's a "coincidence they both went wrong after the snow drive. Sounds a bit fishy...

    Update for my problem.
Ok so today I have been trouble shooting my abs codes. Found the problem. One side of the the abs sensor was/is open in the harness. From the plug at the drivers kick panel to the plug at the rear crossbar there is an open. All the harness looks good no cuts or abrasions. I ran a new set of wires from the plug to the other plug bypassing the harness soldered the connections and heat shrunk the joints. Drove down the road and it got the abs lights when off. Pulled over and cleared all data from obd port and went back home. No lights all good.
