    Ha.. Ha.. Ha...

    And maybe?

did they swap the VSC mid year or exactly on new years date? Those years are definitely a rough estimate so don't quote me as fact :)

Can you imagine the arguments that will start on here with collision avoidance and computer controlled brake magnification once that finds it's way to the Tacoma in a few years

I'm surprised there isn't a thread blaming the back up camera for someone backing into a pole yet. :notsure:

I actually have a female friend, who is on here.

One night she backed into a pole, looking at the camera. Said she couldn't see it. I thought she was going to stop as I could clearly see it. No real damage it was pretty light. But funny!

I came 1" from a stone column this morning, backing up with my rear view blocked with crap in the bed. Rear view camera worked awesome, I found the problem was between the steering wheel and the seat .

Haha, I love my cam for the trailer. And for Walmart parking when some dick parks his car over the line and I have my receiver ball on the truck. It takes the guess work out.

Pull the ABS fuse, manual transmission, Michelin tires, sandbags over the rear axle.

It's all up to the driver.

    It usually is.

I seriously doubt my wife will have an issue, but sometimes the high tech assist dulls the physical senses. Just saying...

    EDIT: and situational awareness.

You'd be surprised how little wheel spin you have with the gravity mod (or Mongo mod), but Michelins are like Goodyear tires, neither like to stick to anything resembling water below 40 degrees F.

Yes. I have noticed that people check their blind spots and pay a little less attention using the back up camera.

Jumping on this abs sucks bandwagon.

Yesterday when pulling into pump at gas station, over sensitive abs locked up and prevented me from turning left into open pump or stopping and took my truck into the car accross from the open pump. It was snowing with a packed/slush mix in parking lot. But nothing that was bad. I was literally doing around 5 mph as I was pulling into pump in a jammed gas station at morning rush. Truck was unresponsive to everything as I did as I aplied brakes and tried to turn left, it continued start right across the bumper of car at other pump. No major damage just some scuffs and deep scratches on her Acura SUV, and minor scratches on my fender flare.

I always felt the braking in general was over sensitive, but this proved the abs is over sensitive. I've been through many driver training classes including evoc training and skid pad training in many vehicles. The truck was unresponsive to all inputs, Turning, brake pumping, ect. It left no skids in snow/slush. Just took way too long to actually stop because system detected a slip at initial braking.

Of course this is on rugged trails, which suck. No other traction aids disabled.

Pissed and embarrassed, lucky it was minor.

Sounds right to me. Snow, slush & ice will reek havoc on steering, stopping and overall control of your vehicle - no matter how slow you are going.

I had the same thing happen to me a couple days ago when pulling up to a stoplight in traffic going about 5 miles per hour. Stopped inches from the car in front of me. There was about an inch of packed snow on the roads. Felt like I had no brakes at all, like a leaking brake line. It just coasted for what seemed like forever. Nothing like the pulsing ABS I've had in other cars I've owned. I also have the crappy Rugged Trail tires but this was definitely a brake system issue as I had no traction issues while accelerating or turning. None of the other cars around had any issue stopping at all. I wish I had a hand e-brake.

If there was no pulsing or noise the ABS was not activated can't blame it. Sounds like you need to invest in new tires.

I'm not a huge fan of the rugged trail tires but I don't believe that they were the problem. It seemed like the brake pedal was disabled and I just coasted to a stop by letting off of the gas. None of the wheels locked up or slid at all. Similar to what the original poster of the thread mentioned. I've been driving on snowy roads everyday for the last few weeks and this was the only time this happened. It's supposed to snow here for the next 4 days so I'll see if I can make it happen again.

You don't really think Toyota or any one else for that matter would get away with not having brakes due to an ABS failure do you?

The only way to be sure if it is your tires or not is to do a test. Find a safe place(with no traffic) that is snow covered and make several stops with your abs. Then pull the abs fuse and do it all again. Same speed, same stops and report back with what happened. I will bet you a beer that you won't want to put that fuse back. (You have to come to PA for the beer I don't deliver)
