It's obvious the ABS program reduces line pressure so much that the brakes don't effectively work. That is an issue with the programming that runs the ABS pump and feedback from each brake/rotor assy.

To somehow claim that older ABS systems that utilized front rotors/rear drums didn't work is ridiculous. Hell, GM had a ABS system [though somewhat primitive] in the very early 70s [or later 60s], I know our Toronado had it and it DID work. I believe Teves designed it.

What it did not do is the traction control that modern ABS usually has and it didn't adjust line pressures for each wheel and feedback typefrom each wheel was not the greatest.

However, to claim that Disc/drum systems didn't have effective ABS systems, especially in the past 20 years, is just not correct. Now if you claim that Toyota doesn't have one that works well, well, I won't disagree with you because their seems to be a plethora of complaints that other brands do not have.

I've heard similar complaints with the FJC which has 4 wheel disc brakes so I doubt it's as much the type of brakes as it is the programming, feedback, and pressure control.

I can't agree. I had a company truck last year - a 2013 Chevy 1500 with rear drum brakes - and while this was the ONLY area it functioned better than my Tacoma, it's ABS functioned very well, and still stopped very well once the ABS system began modulating that brakes. With inferior tires as well.

I have a strange feeling the 4 channels of my ABS system might be crossed - ie, the front's modulating for rear slippage, or even crossed side to side. I might spend some time messing around with it and see what I come up with - I do know it is as it left the factory, but that doesn't mean the brake plumbing or wiring of the sensor circuits is correct. In the meantime, my disable switch is handy.:bananadance:

I've used DAC in my 2014...it's scary as f*ck and sounds like the truck is falling apart. But it works. It's a weird feeling to be clunking downhill with your foot off the brake.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
I don't know about 2013 GM truck because its still brand new vehicle, but didn't older GM trucks had the same exact problems ? I believe there was even Technical bulletin for it. (I remember seeing ABS problems)

Bottom line is it can not be ABS system because both TRD OR and regular trucks have the same exact problem.
TRD OR uses what appears to be Toyota proprietary system, and the rest of trucks seems to be using Bosch common ABS system.
If the problem was in the ABS system than only specific trucks would have problems, and not both TRD OR and regular trucks. Also since both Bosch-like system and TRD system are used on other Toyota trucks, and neither have problems clearly it can not be ABS unit.

So what else is left there?
What is the difference between Sequoia and Tacoma both running the same Bosch system?
Well the only difference is drum brakes on the rear. Sequoia has no problems.
Whats the difference between Land Cruiser or trail edition 4 runner and TRD OR ?
Well the only difference is drum brakes on the rear. and neither 4runner Trail edition nor Land Cruiser has the same problems
In fact you can swap system from 4runner or Sequoia to your truck with their code and it will still have the same problem.
Therefore it can not be ABS unit itself.
Since steel lines would not make any difference, and booster is the same, along side with front calipers pads, the only item that is different is the rear drum brakes.
So it has to be that.

    HAHAHA

Don't tell BlewT that a 2013 chevy pickup had rear drum brakes because he won't believe you...He thinks everything from 1983 on except toyota pickup/tacoma has rear discs.

Or maybe weight distribution of the vehicle, or tires size, or wheel/tire rotational mass/inertia, or tire traction, or suspension dive, or .......nah, it's gotta be some bullshit that blewt heard about reading a magazine.
