Abs pos

I've been driving in the snow for these last few days (first time with the TACO) and Ive come to realize how much the ABS system sucks when Im trying to stop in the snow. I tried stopping at a 4 way stop last night and once I hit the brakes, ABS kicked in and I drifted into the intersection and almost hit a Suburban. I wish it would just let me brake the way I want to, not the way it sees fit. For the moment being, Im downshifting all the way to 1st gear, THEN using the brakes to avoid dying anytime soon. I know other members have had rants about the system before, and was wondering if anyone found a solution to the retarded ABS system?
