    Guys,

Just replaced the ABS pump on my 2002 Tacoma. Bled the brakes. Twice. No air. However every time I stop both front wheel ABS start kicking back.

I know there HAS to be air in the ABS pump but I have no idea how to get it out.

    PLEASE HELP!

Take this with a grain of salt but I did this with my son's 4Runner.

I read that there are two ways to bleed the abs pump. One is at the dealer where they can, using some sort of computer hookup, convince the pump that that the wheels are locked up and abs needs to activate. While that is happening they bleed the brakes which also bleeds the pump.

The other way I read, and employed, is the redneck version. Bleed your brakes normally. Then drive on a gravel road and stomp the breaks. The abs pump will fire. Take it home and bleed your brakes again. Rinse and repeat.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
You can try a vacuum pump or one man bleeder kit.

    OK.

Did the redneck dirt road wheel lock to kick on the ABS pump hoping it was somehow different than what I'm already experiencing. It's identical.

This thing starts acting like it's got a locked wheel and the ABS system activates at EXACTLY 12mph and under. Brakes like an Indy Car from speed to EXACTLY 12mph and then you almost can't get it stopped.

I'm buying a brake bleed kit from Harbor Frieght today but I'm starting to think its not an air bubble. Also going to lift one front wheel off the ground and spin it to try to engage the ABS pump. I'll do this with the key on and the engine off.

Still looking for others that have had this issue.

Did you bleed the brakes again after doing this?

Twice! Haven't spun a wheel yet to engage the pump but I sucked probably 1/2 cup out of each zerk. Still does it.

I wonder if the abs sensor is bad at one or more wheel? I don't know much about that. Hopefully someone else does and will chime in.

    Thanks. There are no codes.

Just to summarize again to beg for help -

New ABS pump installed. Bled all corners and the valve on top of the rear axle. I've bled the brakes maybe 6 times now.

Both FRONT wheels only engage ABS decelerating through 12mph on smooth, dry, straight, any road surface. Dash is clean with no lights and I'm not showing any codes.

Just to make sure-not trying to insult your intelligence-does the ABS light come in for about 3 seconds when you first turn the truck on? Have you tried connecting the diagnostic terminals in the engine bay to test the system (make sure you get the rapid flashing of ABS/Cruise/Airbag lights)? Coincidentally I'm having a different ABS issue myself (see separate post regarding code 48) so I've been doing the diagnostic test myself a few times the past week.

    I'm too stupid to insult!

Yes sir the light comes on until after engine start and then extinguishes. I'm going to let it sit overnight with the battery disconnected and pull codes again tomorrow. When I say "pull codes" I'm using the 4/13 jumper technique.
