They aren’t test. That’s the criteria for making the ABS Light come on for the Speed Sensor.

I was just kidding about testing #8
If my understanding is correct, if you go 62mph or faster in reverse, the light will come on.

That’s why is said, who’s going to “test” it and find out?
    Lol, not me.

It varies widely from state to state and county to county, for example where I'm at in south Texas as long as your exterior lights, horn, and park brake work your good.

The sensors are side sensitive ( Drivers & Passenger sides ) and if you install a right side sensor on the left side the polarity will be reversed. That makes the system see that wheel is turning backwards the same holds true for the bearings.

I didn’t know that. I never looked to see. Hopefully I never need to.

But with prices of new and used vehicles now. It looks like I’ll be doing a bunch of repair before I buy a “new” truck.

There was some guy on here that had his rear hubs reversed right to left and he was having a time until it was realized...

I literally just broke one off myself yesterday! I used a drill bit to drill it out (short of the hub) and then drove in a course screw to pull out the rest. Worked real well. Then on the other side I broke the sensor retaining bolt off! Had to weld a washer and nut on what remained to get it out. My lights turned off automatically when I got it all straightened out.

I wonder how one would even go about diagnosing something like that, I'm pretty sure the speed values in scan data don't differentiate forward and reverse and looking at it with a scope would only show that the signal is present.

You 2 are smarter than me.
But it looks like the m/a 26 vs 14?

I might be wrong? You can correct me. I love learning this stuff.B1F10DE2-271E-47ED-A14A-F5EFE742A064.jpg

Yep they do, straight from tech stream on my truck. Long story short, my custom spindles have the mounting orientation swapped and I just went through this last week.

Well that's handy, I've never seen that on other makes they just show speed in MPH and/or RPM not direction.

I think it has a lot to do with the advanced traction control (ATrac)and off roading. It’s able to detect roll back and brake/traction control accordingly.

I'm not sure, I haven't had much luck/experience with scoping digital wheel speed sensors since they have such a tiny signal output.

Sounds plausible, I don't get to work on Toyota Trucks much, we rarely get them in the shop for anything more than normal maintenance.

Yes, it can tell the difference as noted below in TnShooters post.

We use the same type of sensors in CNC Machines for Spindle Rotation Speed and Directional detection. They work great when properly installed, but can be hard to troubleshoot if you don't know what to look for.

great information - I laughed at #8 - but before that is attempted - install a roll cage - where a helmet - and always look before you backup....

Well - my truck passed emissions and no check engine lights so it was a successful ABS Speed sensor drill out and install - not textbook - but it worked...
