I am looking to replace the passenger side axle shaft and backing plate on my 2001 6 lug Prerunner. It does have the factory E-locker housing and the truck originally came with ABS. The ABS system is completely removed, so I don't care if the axles work with ABS or not.

Can I install a Non ABS rear passenger axle shaft into a Prerunner E-locker housing that originally came with ABS? I don't see why it wouldn't work, the space the tone ring occupies should just remain an open space, but I wanted to double check to make sure the shafts are the same size and length otherwise, and that the seals would still seal.

Nope, the e-locker housing has a 21(?) spline shaft, the open diff housing has a 27 spline shaft. You have to use a shaft for an e-locker housing, although you don't need to keep the skid control rotor (aka tone ring) if you're not using ABS.

It says it fits a 6 cylinder Prerunner without ABS. Wouldn't that mean it's from an e-locker housing? Is the ABS and non ABS shaft for the e-locker housing the same minus the tone ring?
    Thank you for your help.

No, a shaft for a prerunner w/out ABS doesn't necessarily mean it's an elocker axle. You need to ensure the type of shaft it is (spline count) before determining if you can use it in your axle housing.

Yes, the shafts are otherwise the same between ABS and non-ABS. Just need the right spline count for the shaft to fit in the diff carrier.

I called another place that has an axle with 29 splines. That doesn't match either of those numbers. Is there a resource on here for looking up the actual numbers? I can't seem to find a definitive answer. I may have to pull mine out to check, but I'd rather only have to take it apart once.

Yeah I’m probably screwing those numbers up. @Speedytech7 you know the axle spline counts off-hand between elocker and open diff?

Sorry I dont, 29spline sounds right but there might be a 27spline too
