AC Adapter power loss

    My AC adapter in the dash has faulty wiring i think. When i plug my GPS into the Ac adapter (not the cigarette lighter) the GPS screen has a message that pops up saying something about power disconnection would you like to run on battery or turn off, then it suddenly just goes back to doing its thing. And my iphone charger has a bright light on it that lights up when plugged in, i noticed that thing flickers and dims then shuts off, then my iphone lights up because its no longer charging, then the cell phone charger lights up like power is flowing thru it and my iphone says its charging again. It does this every time i use it. If what i typed above is alittle confusing tell me, but i hope who ever reads this gets what im taking about. The question is...is the wiring faulty on my AC adapter?

    if you use it too much, maybe it has a small short on the contact plates (if thats what they are called anyway)

    Peace be on your brother- 16 mins is hardly enuf time to get worried about bumping your thread about not getting answers.

    My guess is you have a bad ground or a loose cable/fuse.

    where would those wires be that causing a short? It wouldnt be the alternator would it, just putting it out there cause one of my friends said that could be a problem

    Sounds like a wire is comming loose. Check the wires behind the socket, and make sure they are intact, and pluged in propperly.

    Alternator would give you problems with everything....You'd get lights dimming and coming back, probably a CEL too fi it was that bad. My guess is the wires are loose between the fuse block and the socket.

    do i need to pull out the ac controls and pop out the radio and etc? couldnt i just pull out the ac adapter?

    i dont the correct term for it but you know the circular things where you plug in gps's and chargers. the two power outlets underneath the A/C controls

    Ok....I dont think they pull right out. Like Brunes said, you have to take the dash apart.

    the ac adapters make a modified sine wave not a true sine wave, this causes problems with electronics. Modified sine waves are squared and notchy version of a "curvy" regular sine wave and dont have the same RMS values. THis most like is the problem

    I think you'll actually end up having the remove the shifter console...cause that whole section is one piece IIRC.

    (But I haven't seen my Taco in like three weeks...so I'm not sure...)

    can you run a cigarette lighter (DC) to the GPS? or you talking about an AC adapter you plug into ths same (DC) round outlet?
