I use my Air Conditioner almost daily from June to August. I always try to remember to shut it off when I park the truck, but I very often forget. I really do not like starting up the truck and having the AC already turned on. It just seems like it's hard on the engine or something. I like to wait to turn it on until the truck is warmed up and I'm in gear and driving. I got to thinking today- it sure would be nice if every time I turned the truck off the AC would automatically turn off until I manually turned it on again. Is anyone aware of a mod that would accomplish this? Or is it even possible?

I would think if you wanted to go through the trouble of manually turning it on every time that you would be able to remember to manually turn it off?

Yes it could be done with some thinking on the subject.

Do you want to add another circuit to the AC system another point of possible failure if you can`t build it yourself how would you explain to someone else how to trouble shoot that circuit.

When it does not show up on any schematic ??

I am not sure why you think you should turn it off thousands of other people leave it on all the summer with me being one of them.

If I lived down south it would most likely be on all year.

In the winter my defrost is on all the time .

As you exit the vehicle just get in the habit of turning the blower motor switch off.

Anything can be built with enough budget!!!

    Yeah. 'or something'.

If that were true the manuf would build in what you are asking about. AC has been in cars since the late 50s, becoming common by the mid 60s, and no one has ever had a problem with this.

Now that you have this worry removed from your life, enjoy your extra time!

Drying out is accomplished by gravity and the evap condensate draining into the case and out the drain hose. Doesn't matter if the vehicle is moving or parked, system running or not, etc.

A problem can form if there is debris in the case that has come in via the vent intake, and/or the drain line is clogged.

The thought the AC is tough on the engine is a old wives tale.

New cars can more than handle you leaving AC on all the time. The only thing it will do is draw more power and reduce performance a very small amount.

    Stay cool my friend!

Interesting thread. I have always been anal about shutting everything down before turning off the vehicle (every vehicle) so that the A/C, radio, etc is not running at startup.

I put my truck on jack stands every time I park. Avoids flat spots at startup.
