Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
I don't know enough about official Toyota nomenclature here, but people are using these terms on tacomaworld. ACC referring to Automatic Climate Control versus MCC meaning Manual Climate Control. On ACC you set a temperature, and the system does what it needs to get to that temperature.

Mine is Manual. Wherever I have the fan speed set, it immediately goes to that speed when I turn on the power. I'm trying to make sure that before I put my key in the ignition, my fan is shut off, or at least on low. Supposedly the instant torque from the electric motor set on high to bring it up to speed is causing the plastic fan spindle to break. I'm not certain if that is the only issue in play here, as I do know several ACC owners have described fan failures as well, and the ACC crowd isn't included on the Special Service Campaign JON as it is known.

3 hours.........I can't believe it. What sort of do-decathumbed, blind thalidomide spastic would need 3 hours to do this job??!!

And here my dumb*** thought that the actual AC Compressor was the one being replaced.

This is why tacomaworld exists with multiple threads:bowdown:

Um, no. That won't last. If the black mark represents a fracture in the plastic, it's going. Also the fin adjacent to it is cracked. Do you have ACC or MCC?

I honestly believe the fan failure issue is broader than what Toyota has indicated in the Service Campaign. If they expand this to something more inclusive as I feel they should, you'll be included. In the meantime though you should be under warranty and could benefit from taking it in. I get the feeling that the part with which they replace your fan could be the new unit. Warranty is warranty. It's broken, or soon to complete the break, you're in warranty, so take it in and talk w your service advisor. Remember you're armed with the knowledge of what we've been discussing on this forum, so you are a step ahead of the usual person taking a vehicle in for service. A lot of how this turns out depends on your relationship w your service advisor.

Interesting, and fortunate to have a choice. Here on the Island it's all a monopoly economy, however I have been grateful to find my service advisor personable; I just lucked out.

ACC notwithstanding, you are under warranty, and your fan is broken. It just hasn't fallen apart yet, but it most certainly will. With a little good fortune, it will be replaced with the "revised fan," rather than the original fan. While they do share the same part number, the box at least for the new fan being used in the Service Campaign which is 0400809104--but open the outer box, and the fan is 87103-04050. This seems like a setup for failure with the old defective part having the same number as the new part, and of course there are old parts still in stock. The least they could have done is put an "A" on the end of the part number reflecting a revision. This sorta practice would never make it in the aviation industry, simply since it is such a guaranteed failure practice.

However, if you weren't under warranty, it could be sticky getting a new fan out of them. Once again with knowledge from the forum you could tell them you're aware of the service campaign, and even print it off to show them so they can't act unaware. Then you could ask if they would install the new upgraded fan unit, or at least sell you one at a discount so you can pull out the 3 screws and install it yourself. But honestly, they (Toyota) know that all of these trucks have defective fans in them, and if you kick up a stink at Toyota USA, you might just be fortunate to get a new fan even if past warranty. They KNOW this is a problem. I project that at some point, they'll capitulate and expand the Service Campaign to include all of these trucks--ACC, MCC from start of Gen 3 up to where they started installing a better quality fan unit.

Good luck to you in this, and please let us all know how it turns out. Also, post up photo of service document.

They called me yesterday to schedule mine, told me it would take 1 hour... I wish they would have done it the week prior when I was in for my 15,000 mile service...

Don't feel bad. I'm still awaiting the call, looking for the notification letter, etc. I suppose if I don't hear anything by the end of the year, I'll give them a call......that is, if the one I just had replaced a month ago lasts that long.

I know they should change it and i may wait a month or so to get the new updated parts in the system, unless they can assure me its the new part they order. i have till feb 2019 for my 3 years but i wont wait much longer as i will forget and then it will snap off on me

Living in the Southwest desert a broken A/C could be lethal. My service advisor also called it a recall.

No, the auto control system spools the fan motor to the speed needed from stop. In other words the motor speed ramps up step by step to max if max is what is needed.
