@Burro09 it appears that your blower assembly was replaced with the original (and hence still defective) Part Number. Sadly, it is likely yours will crap out on you again. It is possible that it can last if you can remember to always make sure the fan is turned off when you start up your truck. I've been doing this, but it's hit or miss. Now that I have my service campaign letter, the issue is moot. Hopefully yours will last a considerable time and not give you an issue again.

O well lol. Hopefully it fails again in warranty.

Worse case I have to install my own out of waranty. Maybe someone might make a better aftermarket unit by then. They seem to sell so many of these trucks that I im sure the aftermarket will cover alot of ts deficiencies.

I went through 3 on my second gen and all they did was use the same defective part until the dealer stuck in an aftermarket fan, then no issues whatsoever. Now I have to do this all over with my third gen. Bummer.

I think it depends on where you are. My dealer has a boat load of them.

I would call them. They had mine in for weeks and didn't call me. They were going to make me wait until what was supposed to be a worst case scenario appt. My blower went out during a warm spell, so I called them. They had the damn thing just sitting there! :frusty:

They called me yesterday.... Parts are in.

However the dealer "doesn't do recalls on weekends".

So they can either give me the part and I'll do it myself, or they can stick the part up their.....

I think the defective motor was only in certain trucks. Did yours fail or is it making noise?

What was your build date? Do you have automatic HVAC controls, or do you have manual controls?

Remember, this is not a recall.

No failure, manual control, very late 16 build around May.

Your Truck should be included. This service campaign includes all 2016 and 2017 Tacomas with Manual Climate Control (MCC) with manufacturing date between early June 2016 to late Aug 2017.

The parameters of the service campaign can be seen in Post #28, Page 2 of this thread. If you have not received your notice letter, the last sentence on that page instructs the Service Department to check in TIS for your eligibility. While I lack knowledge on what that system is, it seems they checked here, or they simply stiff-armed you to make you go away.

Okay, editing this in.....I see you said late May. I suppose (duh) that was May 2016 since I see you have a '16 model. Well, that puts you OUTSIDE the parameters of the special service campaign, and therefore ineligible. Good thing too that yours has not failed; maybe you have a blower made before the defective batch of blowers. Good luck to you, and may your fan live a long and happy life.

Called my dealer last week. They said they need to order it and will call me when part is in. A week goes by. I called the dealership. They ask which vehicle do I own. Connect to service. Put on hold.... service reconnects said hold we are going to see if parts has the part. Yep it’s in so you can pick it up. I said honey, you sound new. It’s a recall ! When will you be installing it?
All that but me dealer slots me for 2:30 tomorrom on a holiday week. Guess I’m the lucky one. Parts in and got me in while on vacation. Problem is I have no issue with the part right now. Do I let them swap it and hope they reassemble my dash correctly? Do I hope the new garbage part they install won’t “now” fail?
I hate service at the dealer. My truck is less than 2 yrs old and my warranty has expired. Lucky I have a great neighbor who can fix a go-kart to a back hoe! Lol

Yeah, get it fixed. If you've read thru this thread, or thru the other variants of this thread about the defective fan situation, you'd know that this is a simple process: Disconnect an electrical connector, remove 3 screws, pull out fan assembly. Put in new fan assembly, put the 3 screws back in, reconnect the electrical connector, Done.
I'm not oversimplifying this, I've done it twice. It takes about 15-20 minutes, and a 1/4" drive ratchet with maybe a short extension, and a 7/32" socket. The only tough part is getting into position to see up under your passenger side dash. This involves a certain amount of contortion and discomfort, so if you happen to ever do it, have your tools on-hand, and maybe a person who can pass you what you need when you need it, including maybe holding a light up under there for you.

Im assuming my dealer drops the dash. I was told they need a 1 1/2 hrs. I assume that’s the book time the dealer is going to jack Toyota (warranty rate)
