Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
Nope, Toyota does it exactly the same way that I do. You don't even need to pull the back out of your glovebox (as in changing the cabin filter) to do this. Take a peek at it yourself, you'll see that it is simple, and the estimates of 1-3 hours to do this is a farce.......just the same way that people claim you need to find a 5.5 mm socket to do this. Nope, 7/32 fits perfectly:

Decimal equivalent of 7/32" = 0.21875" Conversion of 5.5 mm to inches = 0.216535" The difference is 0.002215 which is only 2 Thousandths of an inch. Sockets are simply not made to such exacting dimensional tolerances where 0.002 Thousandths is going to make a difference at all.

If you were to witness a Toyota mechanic removing a dash to change the HVAC blower assembly, then run away as fast as you can and never consider going back to a place like that. They'd likely try rebuilding your engine thru the tail pipe.

That sucks, I was planning on waiting while the work got done. The letter in the mail said, "less than 1 hour" and the dealer paperwork shown on this thread showed 0.4 hours billed.

I go in next week for mine.

There are lots of variables when you have something like this done, one of which is how many cars they have in queue. I know that I took the shuttle home and wasn't home long before they called me, so it could have been shorter.

Good for you. Hopefully it was the new upgraded unit, but good that you got them to change it out either way.

I went to the parts counter and looked at it. had a date on it 08/2018
they asked me how i knew to look for it as it was only cracked and not making any noise (i won't get the letter, to early of a build 2/2016) and i told them i saw it when i changer the filter, i lied and read it hear and looked.. and told them i also know my truck. i want the truck to last 15 years so now i have a 3 year newer blower .

Had mine replaced with the updated blower/fan at the local dealership on Monday. Painless.

Did anyone smell a really strong glue smell after the fan replacement? It took my truck a couple of days to air out.

No smell that I noticed. In and out, replacement only took only 20 min.

20 minutes sounds about right for this job.

My whole truck smelled like a strong glue odor for days afterwards.

I just got mine replaced today with the new part number but now I seem to hear a noticeable slight hum, the hum gets louder as I turn the fan speed up. Hum stops when I turn off the fan. Any one else experience this?

This is annoying! I was better off with the old, recalled part. Didn't give me any problems or hum.

No. You should take it back and show them the noise. Mine is very quiet after the new one was installed.

Something is not right so I’d take it back in. Mine is quiet as a mouse with literally zero noise. As I said before I did have a very strong glue smell (that went away) but zero noise. Heck, my Taco fan is quieter than my Yukon XL fan.

Wonder what they could have been gluing in your truck, I would think it would be nothing more than R&R of the Fan.

Does anyone have a pic of the new fan , the part that’s cracking. I like to see how they redesigned it.

I have no idea, especially after reading how noninvasive this fix was supposed to be. If my truck ever gets out of the shop I think I’ll look around to see if maybe they broke something and glued it back on. Literally I have no clue but it was a really strong smell.

I got my service campaign notice for my blower to be replaced. Called the dealership to get it done as well as the tsb for the tranny. Dealership told me that they can only do one thing per appointment. WTF. Anyone else have this happen to them? Dealership is 110 miles away. Sounds like BS to me.
