My blower is going out intermittently. I tapped on the motor casing and it started right up. Since several have mentioned that just cleaning up the motor has worked for them, I am wondering if the motor is in front of the filter, i.e., the air hits the motor before going thru the filter (assuming they use air to cool the blower motor). That would certainly explain the issues related to the design ...

    1. Cleaning the motor has worked for some.
    2. A clogged motor or filter causing the motor to work harder and therefore draw more current burning up some of the wires and harnesses.

I checked the resistor and harness yesterday, no signs of heat damage. I am going to crack open the motor casing either today or tomorrow so I am interested in understanding the design a little better so that I may ensure my system is going to work for quite a while after I am done. Thanks!

How do you remove the fan from the motor?

You probably have a faulty connection at the wire connector at the fan / blower located above the passenger foot area.

Good info here. I've noticed my fan getting louder. I'll try cleaning it and see if that makes a difference.

Great info in this thread... I followed OP's instructions up to the 4 screws part, sprayed a little WD40 on center metal part (not inside with the copper), then plugged the power back in for testing and the little ticking sound on low--and all settings was no more! Super excited this worked, just not sure how long the WD40 will last before i have to repeat the process again.

Started hearing my blower motor hum today. It'll just be a matter of time before I have to open it up I guess.

    done. 10 minutes max.

i'm going deer hunting where it is cold next week and will need a reliable blower. so i bought a new one from the dealership. it is different from the OEM unit in that there are not the four screws on the top to dive any deeper to the repairs. i'll pull apart the original for kicks.

mine made a whirling and clicking sound all last week. then it died until i gave it a donkey punch..

Followed the OP's instructions, as my blower was working sporadically, and got er done. Pain in the ass bending over like that. But, didn't really have an option as it's 100 degrees outside and I need an AC period. I also used a keyboard air duster to clean up the motor and under the dash along with some electronic parts spray cleaner. Works better than when I got the truck 6 years ago.

AC always ran fine. Then it was "maybe my AC will work today." Then it was the "smack the dash" or a "light tap on the AC motor" situation. Now that will barely get it running, so I figured i'd start looking in to the problem.

    - Connector shows no sign of heat or wear.
    - Haven't checked the magnetic clutch relay yet.
    - Started disassembling and wow, it's filthy. A good cleaning may not fix my AC, but it can't hurt when things are this grimy.

Update: Much to my surprise, a little light brushing with a toothbrush, wiping with a paper towel, and blowing with my lungs, then reassembling and installing...and my AC not only kicked right on for the first time in months but it is also blowing nice and hard. All for the low price of $0 and ~ 20 minutes! Will it last? That remains to be seen, but I'll take what I can get.

Mine started making a noise on low that I put up with 2 years from new, but regreasing the bearing seams to be a great fix. I hope it last. Thanks man

Great suggestion, I had done the same to my blower before checking this forum. Unfortunately the darn thing started squeaking and slowing way down again just two days later. It may have received too much bearing damage before I repaired it? Anyway, I ended up replacing mine for $45. Decided to make a video of the process and sharing it here- hope this helps some members out

Well, mines wasn't as grotesque as the guy with the squirrel above, but I did have enough dirt that it was beginning to grow grass/moss...
