clearance should be 0.30 to 0.60mm(0.012 to 0.024in.)it should take 3 spacers or less, the bolt should be torqued 10ft/pds

This is from the first time I did it. I think .003” is close enough lol

New clutch is already on its way. If it happens again I’ll dig deeper into the compressor.

My 05 is doing the same thing, squealing and burnt rubber. Where are you buying the new clutch hub and how much are you paying? I saw in the various pics a HT205 and an HT208, is there a difference? I was seeing some on ebay for 13.00, is it worth the money to go with a brand name or are they all created equal? Thanks for the help guys.

Just ordered the hub only from eBay as listed earlier in this thread. Compressor is making slight intermittent noise, no ac light blinking and still cold air. Will give this a go when I get back from vacation. Great info in this thread and forum in general. Won't be the first project I've attempted thanks to this forum. Peace

Just replaced my hub and I finally have air again! Thanks to all that contributed to this thread. $50 and 45 mins work - can't beat that. I removed the skid plate and went from the bottom. Old hub had the rubber ball just as expected

Thank you guys, a new clutch was installed today. I did do one silly thing. I spent a extraordinary amount of time agonizing over the old and new washer thickness with my micrometer. That is till I realized it was the plate gap that I was looking for, doh.

nice post, easy to follow, my 08 is doing same, i pulled old 1 to see how hard, found pulling the fan(5 bolts) made job easy from top, used oil wrench with vice grips to hold assembly, will repeat when part comes in,

Just replaced mine today. Really is a crime that the dealers would call for compressor replacement when it is this simple to fix. Thanks for the great information.

I have a issue going on that I believe this may be the problem. I have been thinking it was the electrical part that works from the rpm of the motor to make compressor blow cold but in the last couple of weeks my ac has work fine and only kicked out at idle speeds if I sat that way for a while. Well not it will not stay kicked in more than just a few seconds but I have now noticed a whine under the hood that in past on other vehicles I have associated the noise with the power steering pump. What are the thoughts on this, could the AC Compressor CLUTCH be my problem and what is making the noise under my hood ?? Just want to add that the sound doesn't change when compressor kicks in or out.

    Thanks

Freaking love this site!!! Had a horrible sound under the hood when the AC kicked on and I immediately looked it up on here. I was happy to see the rubber pellets around the clutch when I pulled it since that is the cheapest thing to fix. Put on the new clutch hub and everything works perfect! Such an easy fix if it’s the clutch. Thank you OP, all that have contributed to this thread, and TW!!

I have a quick question that I haven't been able to answer:

I purchased an AC clutch hub for my 2013 Tacoma. The one I received has three additional threaded holes on the front of the plate, going through to the other side. Do these serve any function? I assume not because they don't appear on the original -- so I can just plug them with Permatex. Any other thoughts -- including whether they sent me the wrong hub.

    Thanks!

Edit: Answered my own question. The holes are for a tool that I don't have.

(Edited/Updated) - This worked fine and saved about $850 from what my mechanic recommended. I just used the old washers and it was a perfect gap. Easy and cheap fix!

Hi everyone, lots of great info on here. Thanks for sharing. I just received my clutch hub, from eBay, and it doesn't appear to be the same. With the 3 metal dots around the center. Did I get hosed here?

Also having trouble following the washer spacing. This one didn't come with any loose washers or anything like that. What do those look like? Can I use the original washers?

The original eBay link in this post is sold out, so I went with this one (https://www.ebay.com/itm/263797071714)
(but again, what I got in the mail doesn't look like what is pictured in this eBay listing either).

If it will work just the same, I don't really care. Just thought to check here before I return.

Driving in the rain today and squeel and flashing A/C light...Checked out and I can see rubber sticking out of the clutch hub...the tinkering never ends! I think I am going to do my belt as well...and fix the stripped out/missing skid plate bolts...

Here is a heads up for you all...unless I am doing something completely wrong...the "Universal clutch tool" from Autozone DOESN'T fit the tacoma...IT says OEM 27000 on it and when you place the tool on it's smallest setting it's still too big for the gaps between the openings in the busted clutch....And with there being ZERO room to work with in the 2.7L 4 cylinder engine I don't know if I can get a socket in there and a vice grip to hold the broken clutch face to get it off...UUUGHH.

I have the 2.7 4 cylinder engine. I managed to get it done by removing the fan guard and a small pair of vise grips and a socket wrench. I had to use a stool and hang in there a bit. It’s tight, but you can do it.
