Tbh i don't think they replace the clutch hub because you can't seem to source the part from anywhere except ebay, but they are grimy for pushing compressors on peoole when a 50 dollar fix is available. If a service place told me about this they would get a customer for life

agreed, but if this turns out to be the problem.. they could have suggested the clutch assembly which is about $400 CDN and still 10% of the price they quoted... I will have to find what they quoted... it was last winter but I remember thinking I could just by a small car with working AC for that price :)

Just replace this AC clutch this morning on my '09 DCLB. Thank you all for this thread. Bought part from eBay seller OP listed. Bought new bearing at same time just in case. Turned out didn't need it as pulley spins freely. Used strap wrench from my plumbing tool box instead of vice grips or going to parts store for rental. Set shims to achieve 0.45 mm gap. AC back to working fine. Took about half an hour including removing and reinstalling splash guard. That was all I had to remove on V6 working from underneath. Didn't even have to jack it up/remove tire, etc. This forum is great and all who freely take the time to photo and post things like this are very very much appreciated. Thanks Again

I just replaced my clutch assembly and it appears that the hole in the clutch plate is tapered but the compressor shaft is not tapered
so when I install the plate it only goes on about half way. Has anyone seen this before? I got the truck used so I'm not sure if the
    is original or not.

    Help

What clutch hub did you buy exactly and is the compressor original? I know the ebay listing i used specifically says only to be used with oem toyota compressor

It's a Dorman clutch assembly from Advanced.
I bought the truck used so I have no idea if the compressor is original or not.
It had around 100k on it so it could be a replacement I guess.
I saw some of the eBay listings that said use only with OE compressor too, that is what
    got me thinking.

Does anyone have a source for the straight shaft, non tapered clutch plate? I don't see
    any listings that say that?

SO.... that was about 30 min work.. only because I was poking around looking at stuff... all in if I did it again it would be like 10 min to take the old part off and put the new one in, including making sure the spacers were the same. and VOILA - I have ice cold air. I am SO happy and SO pissed at the same time. But looks like I will at least be cold this summer. thanks so much!

By the way... I don't have the splash guard on the fro t at the moment so I did this from underneath . Didn't have to remove any other parts

Wow, a few years ago I paid over 1k to get a new compressor because of this issue.

If only this part existed then...

    This is awesome!

Congrats! Another member saves $$ because of tacomaworld! Such an easy fix compared to a complete compressor (or even clutch) replacement!

that's another issue I have found on my truck is the bolts on the skid plate have rusted/seized up and in trying to remove it I snapped a bolt head off and had to re drill out the screw and re tap the hole, any tips on how u got the skid plate off without major carnage to the bolts? honestly it looks like the remaining 3 bolts will have to be broken off in order to remove the skid plate, even after days of soaking them in PB Blaster.

What about some heat? Im not an expert at these things but i think heat is used to help stop busting bolts

from what ive researched the heat from a torch doesn't help with these suckers its mostly hit or miss if you are lucky enough to get them out, mine are solid as shit wont budge. read this https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/stuck-skid-plate-bolts.331443/

this im considering trying, there is also something made by Sea Foam called Deep Creep it costs $12 a can at Autozone im considering trying it or Acetone/ATF because the alternative is a lot of shit I don't want to get involved with,i got 4 new pan bolts from Toyota dealer and new bolts from Homedepot cause the bolts on the pan are welded to the frame and will snap off the welds too if not carefull, that's what happened trying to fix the 1st one I broke. https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/597359/Re:_Liquid_Wrench_vs._PB_Blast

Fwiw i have deep creep and it seems to work well. I used it on that steering knuckle that was binding up a bit, it actually made some rust shed off of the knuckle and steering has been fine. May be worth giving a shot, spray in there morning and night for a few days and see what happens. Maybe use an impact driver, the hammering may help?

I was looking Deep creep over at Autozone as well as other penetrants I going to hold off for awhile on those remaining bolts for a bit cause I got to do the coolant change and im also replacing the rear shocks too, so I don't want to go into a deep depression by snapping those remaining 3 bolts prematurely before tackling the other tasks,i wanted to get the pan off to do the coolant change but I can snake a vinyl hose to the petcock and into a pail and not make a mess. I already snapped the head of the shock stud off trying to loosen that MFer 14mm bolt that holds the top shock stud after hosing it for days with penetrant looks like a job for the sawzall there. these trucks are a major mother when any bolts or screws on the under carriage need to be removed, all those YOUTUBE vids show the guy easily unbolting the shocks or the skid pans, im fighting every bolt or screw LOL

that's why I don't have that on the truck... I took it off a while back and broke one of the bolts. I have been trying for months to get it out of there (mostly because of bad weather..._) yesterday I managed to heat it up, then cool it off quick with some "freeze out" and it finally started to move, then it got stuck again. That stuff worked really well on all the bolts I broke getting the rear bumper braces off. I will try again, I really don't want to have to drill it, but the remaining bolt threads are starting to look like a shaft at this point...
