I am new to this forum and I have read other posts related to this issue but I still have questions so I am starting a new thread with all of my particulars to see if some of you can fill in the gaps for me. So here it goes.

    2008 Double Cab 4x2 PreRunner V6

A/C light in dash blinks and A/C blows warm while blinking. I have read that this is most likely related to Magnetic Clutch relay. For me, this is a problem that has worsened over time. A/C light blinking happened maybe once every other week for a couple of months. Turning the switch on and off usually corrected the problem. Until last Friday. Suffered thru the weekend looking for a a cheap replacement (afraid of the $79.00 relay that Toyota sells). Finally found a n/o relay at NAPA with same 4 post arrangement that was supposed to be for AC compressors for $8.00 on the following Tuesday. Pluged it in and A/C immediately started working, felt great the problem was solved. Wrong. A/C light started blinking again the next day after aproximately 8hrs of use.

Now I have the feeling that had I bought the Toyota Relay maybe it would still be working (by the way,no towing package on truck so no towing relay to swap out with). So that is my background now here are the questions. Does anyone think that the cheap'o relay could still be the problem or maybe the amperage was wrong, I have no idea. Could something be causing the relay failure? If so what. Is there a way to test the clutch to see if it is the problem?

I still feel that the relay is the problem but I am afraid to buy the high dollar one out of fear that if there is some other problem, that problem will cause damage my brand new overpriced relay when I plug it in and run it.

Yes I have had the system evacuated and recharged. The freon levels are good.

Please someone talk me off the ledge and give me some ideas.
