So, my '09 AC finally did it's battle cry of death and went out and I'm researching the heck out of how to replace it all. Since I've never replaced AC before. From the looks of it, Four Seasons seems to be the brand most folks on here are happy with. Other brands seem to be failing within a year.

My question is, do I need to replace the Evaporator core? I believe that is in the cab and would be a pain to get to. I'm replacing everything including the hoses 'cause why not since I already have it all a part. I'm hoping I could just flush that.

This is my parts list thus far:
    Valve Core & Cap Kit Part:30031-05081235 $4

Have the system evacuated, replace the compressor and receiver dryer/filter, have a shop hold it under vacuum to confirm there are no leaks, then have them charge it. Unless you like A/C work, that's a whole lot of stuff that doesn't need to be replaced, if you're concerned about leaks get new o-rings for the lines and connections. There's no reason to replace the oe toyota stuff with aftermarket if it isn't leaking.

Same thing just happened to me. When i took it apart i didn't see a bunch of debris in the hoses so i only replaced the compressor. ChrisFix on YouTube did an awesome video for how to replace the compressor. If i did it again i would have a shop charge the new system, the crappy valves you buy at AutoZone were not very accurate or helpful

A shop here cuts open the old receiver drier looking at any contamination anytime they are replacing a compressor. I was told since it's filtered there it's a sure telltale if the system has spit out a bunch of garbage into the lines.

That's a great Idea. I'm going to do that for sure.
