    Hello fellow TW members,

I've been trying to track down this weird chirp noise coming from the engine and now the sound has gotten to the point where it makes enough noise to be concerned. It is much louder when the AC is on, so it leads me to suspect the AC pulley bearing (all idlers have been replaced). I would like to just replace the bearing since the compressor still blows ice cold.

Hopefully it's straightforward like any other AC compressor. Has anyone ever tackled this?
Another question I have is, what size bearing is it?

    Thank you for the help.

When the AC is on, the bearing is not spinning like it does when the AC is off. Have you replaced the belt, or checked it?

A simple test for belt noise that works most of the time: Wet part of the belt inside and out with water that has a few drops of soap in it. Start the truck and listen, does the sound go away, but return in a few minutes after the water evaporates? If so, replace the belt.

Also most of the newer compressors require a puller tool and an installer tool to remove the clutch without ruining the compressor shaft seal. I don't have any experience on a Taco though, so this may not be true.

I would just put a new belt on before trying anything else.

Just replaced the belt, tensioner, all idlers. The noise occurs when the engine is hot and is loudest while lightly slipping the clutch in 1st at under 1000 rpm. When the ac clutch engages, it gets louder as well. Once it cools down I don't hear it as much. To be honest I am not 100% it is the compressor because the mechanic stethoscope didn't pick it up. Starting to get frustrated....
