I am having a issue with the ac compressor. It run for half minute, then and stop running for 20 seconds and start running again. When the compressor is running the air is cold. So I remove some gas and the compressor start running non stop, but now is not cool enough. Some idea?

    Typically, if a compressor runs/stops
    It’s a safety feature
Bc low Freon/oil, if compressor continued to spin would burn up

How does one check the oil level? I recently put a used compressor in mine, but changed the gasket/oil. I'm curious if there's a way to check if it's the correct quantity and/or holding.

I don't think there is a way to check how much oil you have. But you can just flush the system and start new. Might be a good idea anyway to change all the o-rings, dryer and expansion valve.

Yeah, like mikerC says….no way to check
    But
    Depending on manufacturer
Depending on what AC part you replace, you need to add appropriate amount of oil
    I just RR’d my Subaru compressor/dryer/expansion valve
    Manual says:
.2 oz (freaking teaspoon) for dryer
    0 oil for E valve
0 oil for compressor (bc has oil from factory)
    Other manufacturers most likely different
