I bought a 2011 Tacoma Prerunner double cab V6 from my neighbor. We live in AZ and summer is coming. He said that when he turned on the AC, the ign1 No. 2 would blow so he went last summer without AC. Then he changed the compressor with one of our neighbors who is a certified mechanic. Ran cold for 10 minutes and the fuse blew. He bought his parents truck and it has sat until I bought it from him. The fuse was blown when I bought it, all the warning lights are on so I replace the fuse. As long at the AC doesn't go on, we are good. I read some posts here. I cleaned the connectors on the AC Compressor, some other connectors and it went away for about a week and was blowing cold. Got to work and all the warning lights were on and I changed the fuse. I've been working my way from the easiest fixes to the hardest. There was a knocking, changed the blower actuator and wiring harness. It only blew on high so I changed the resistor and wiring. The problem seemed to get worse and fuse blew the second I turned on the AC. I took the truck into the shop with the advice from another post suggesting that there was a short in the magnetic clutch wiring. That's above my level. The shop says that the AC compressor probably didn't have the right oil in it, over-heated and it's shot. $2,500. Without checking it after the shop, I brought it home and changed the blower motor just because I had the new one on hand. Now I turn on the AC and the AC light blinks, doesn't blow cold air, but the fuse isn't blowing yet. Honestly, some of the other posts talked about possible moisture in the connectors and soldering, etc. There was one about a violet wire for the magnetic clutch relay.

I'm not going to get to these wires without tearing my sway bar and engine apart and I'm terrified of doing so and finding out the shop was right and the AC compressor that was just replaced is shot. Then I have to tear everything apart again and replace the AC Compressor.

I want to clarify, the knocking is gone and it blows air at different levels. So those fixes did work. But now I have that blinking AC light. I feel like I'm running in circles. I wanted to ask the guy at the shop, "so if I pay you $2500 to replace the compressor, and it's still shorting out, are you going to give me a refund and fix the short?"
