The light flashes to let you know the computer has detected a problem that is preventing the compressor from being engaged. This can range from a low charge to a short in a wire, or a bad switch/sensor. Do you have access to a scan tool?

If you don't have a scan tool take it to autozone or ... and see if they can read the code for free.

This happened to me last week, mine was flashing because my compressor seized.

i know this problem existed on early 1gr 4runners due to the compressor relay. search google it and see if you have the same system/ relay. not sure if the new part is improved or not
