    Hi everyone ,

I need help ! My AC is making weird noises while it's running . No sound when it's off . Did anyone have this problem before ? Is it the compressor itself , the bearing or the clutch ???

Couldn't find any answers anywhere :(

    Thank you

Is it the clicking or the wind tunnel noise? Can't really tell which noise you're referring to in the video.

So its the clicking sound? Blower motor. They typically do it on low fan speeds. I'm on my second one and it has begun clicking.

I got the same problem. Don't have good ac either. Thought it was the bearing. The sound is coming from the ac compressor. Would like to hear others opinions too. I need to fix this before the summer.

I know right ? And I'm in Florida so it's already hot . Good thing it's blowing cold but the sound is horrible and I don't wanna make it worse . It's not quite clicking .... I will try to take another video in a more quiet place I heard it might be a bearing or a clutch but idk .. I've replaced a motor blower resitor ( I think that's what it was called ) before when the AC only worked on high and none of the fan settings worked and now this ... And it does this sound on all settings not just low

Yea. Run your ac nd watch the pully on the compressor. I bet it makes that sound when it tries to spin or does spin. Only lasts for a few secconds?

I have the clicking sound when running the heat on low fan speed too. It is fairly loud and distracting. How much does a new blower motor cost? Thanks.

Don't know about the blower motor itself but the resistor was like 40$ and easy to replace . That's when the fan doesn't turn on at all and only runs on high . But my noise is all the time not just on low speeds and it's getting louder

there is a service bulletin (TSB) for a clicking blower motor and if your still within the warranty time for it, toyota has an updated blower motor that they will install at no cost I'm pretty sure. I'm a honda tech but the toyota dealership goodwilled my blower motor a year or so ago.

In my case it's either compressor , compressor clutch or a bearing .. Don't know which one and how much it will be .... The blower motor warranty applies only to 36k miles mines has 105k also it's not clicking it's almost grinding punching noise

the best way to tell if its the compressor would be to remove the belt and turn it by hand. if it feels rough or the pulley wobbles then its time for a new compressor unfortunately

Okay sweet !! Is it hard to get to the belt ? Would it be easier from top or bottom ?!

I think its easier to remove the belt from the bottom

i feel its the same either way but the less time i have to lay on the ground the better lol. (I'm spoiled working in a shop with lifts all day) you don't have to remove the belt all the way. just enough to free the a/c compressor

Might have to try that this weekend then . It's the weirdest noise ever that I cannot describe also does the whole compressor have to be taken out in order to replace the bearing , if it turns out to be that ?

yes but you have to have some special tools to overhaul a compressor not to mention evacuating the system and charging it back to spec. honestly with the age and milage, if you can, i would replace the compressor if thats what it turns out to be.

To turn the compressor by hand, the clutch needs to be engaged. The truck needs to be running to do this, and without the belt on...

You can test turn the clutch bearing by hand, but not the compressor itself.

Simply put, if there is no noise with the AC off, and noise with the AC on, it's probably the compressor.

PS. I couldn't hear jack shit in your 5 second video. Try on under the hood, and make it a bit longer. :)
