stress cracks in the metal are not uncommon with people who wheel hard. they are located in the upper portion of the rear door jamb.

I can't find the pics because I last brought it up a long time ago, but whenever I do bring it up at least one member goes and looks then comes back with a pic of his failing as well.

Brutalguyracing and HB Murphy have this issue to name a few.

Rear Leaf spring TSB, Bilstein 5100's all around w/ front set at 1.75", 265/75R/16 Mickey Thompson Baja STZ's, Trailer hitch w/custom wiring, AFE drop in dry filter, Rear Diff breather mod, Debadged truck, customized stock TRD wheel center caps, added factory fog lights, bed mat, door sills, tinted windows
The only thing I wish I had was the original back seat set up of the 05-08 models. The factory boom box also takes up room, but for almost five years I have been able to work around the new set up. But I had to take the back head rests out as they annoyed me while driving.

Love my AC. If I had a family than the DC would be it.

Regret in not getting a 4x4 or OffRoad though hahaha.

Double cabs are uglier than fran dreshers voice. Looks so out of place on a midsized truck

Like a few have mentioned the doors get a little tight when parked around other people. Otherwise it's an extended cab like you would expect, tight with adults in the back but doable.

years rarely matter unless Toyota puts out a TSB or retools the line to fix the issues.

    I would speculate 2004-2014

I can reach my rear window :p

my doors don't rattle but my glass sure as hell does. One day Ill rip the door panel off and tighten her down.

Love the AC for many of the reasons stated above (even tho I'm 1st gen). It boils down to personal preference and my truck isn't used as a people mover.

No extra people to haul, extra room inside the cab, seats go back farther than I need, full size bed with medium wheelbase.
AC is the only choice for me.

Haha! You mean double cabs with a short bed, right? Good thing I have a double cab with a long bed. Dodged a bullet on that one!

Mine is definitely is on the big end of mid size with its long bed, but I don't mind at all. Its still smaller than any full size truck. And I don't go off roading, nor do I plan to, so the length of it isn't reall an issue in that regard. Since I don't go off roading, i guess I don't have to worry about any o those structural issues that were mentioned. My dad has an AC with the Off Road package that I drove quite a bit before I bought my DCLB. I can attest to it being louder than a double cab. The rear "doors" on his AC seem to be the culprits. I don't haul people around all the time, but it's really nice to be able to when I need to.

Determine what your needs and wants are, then choose your truck from that. If you still can't decide, then go for the cheaper one and spend the money you saved on mods.:D

Thks for the heads-up - been trying to decide between AC or DC. This makes it easy since AC is cheaper! :)

No regrets on my AC. The proportions look just right. I haven't noticed any type of door rattle or other issues.

My first Tacoma was an 11' DBLC. In the time that I used it I never used it for what it was intended. I never really had any passengers and being in the city it was a pain in the ass to park. The only thing that I ever carried on a regular basis was my pedal bike.

Last November a got a 13' Access Cab. I found in the time that I have had it that it's a perfect for me. If things were to change that I carried more or had a family then I could see have a DC. But really, what it comes down to what you need it for.

Mine has treated me great for 4.5 years. I will be trading soon for a DCLB because we have a kid on the way and I am too big for the car seat to go behind mine.

I'm a single guy and I still use the double cab at least once a week hauling friends, tools, bigger items I don't want to get wet, etc. My old truck was an AC and not nearly as useful.

I really don't see any negatives to having the extra space with the DC other than if you were to not like the appearance or you rock crawl your truck.

Downside to a DC is you have to chose between a short bed or a long wheelbase.
A shell keeps my stuff dry.

I like my AC but I wish the 1st gen AC's like mine had rear doors.. I've already decided that a few years from now my truck will be a DC 6-speed.

I have a child so a DC was a must. But it's also been great for other things and I love the extra room

OME complete kit with dakars, LR UCAs, Seat covers, weathertechs, anytime foglight mod, ABS kill switch, locker anytime mod, powered sub, halos, leer topper, aux/ipod hookup.
I love my AC, no regrets, if I were too get a DC i'd get the long bed, only downside to that is the longer wheelbase. Stick with the AC and buy a topper in case you need to hauls stuff out of the weather.
