I always turn the "recirculate" off when I turn the A/C on and that never stopped the funk in mine. I noticed early on after turning the A/C off in my truck it blows cold air for a long time after the A/C is off. Never had a truck or suv before that done this. I just drive my truck on short trips in town so no time to turn the a/c off and let the fan run on high before I get home. I usually just wait till I park and do that with the heat on high.

That seems to be more of a preventative measure, whereas the chemical treatment is for cases where there is full bacterial growth in the system and a foul smell.

I've been doing the lysol treatment every so often just because I like the fresh cabin smell afterwards.

some vehicles have a feature called "afterblow" that can be enabled that runs the hvac fan after you shut off the truck. it's usually not enabled by default but can be enabled by the dealer. i wonder if you can do this in techstream.

What scented Lysol do you like? I think the "Crisp Linen" has a nice scent.

Process I use is roll the windows down, leave the truck running, turn on the heat to high, open the hood you’ll see the intakes with mesh right underneath the windshield wipers. Douse them with Lysol in all intakes. Then turn off truck and let it sit for a while with the windows down. I’ll usually do it when I park it for the night in my garage. Interior smells like fresh linen when I get in it in the morning

I bought the OEM kit from Toyota and did it in the Spring time. My 2018 has 20k miles and is in new condition. I have to say that when I did mine and changed the cabin air filter I noticed the AC was colder and it smelled fresh, but I never had issues with the AC being not cold or odors. The stuff works and I recommend it as it really freshens things up. I got my kit for $30 if I remember correctly and took about 15 minutes to do.

I bought a $3.97 can of Lysol NeutraAir Spray and sprayed it up the re circulation inlet under the dash with "re circulation" on for 15 seconds then pulled the cabin filter out and put the cover back on and popped the hood. Turned the A/C on high, "dash vents" and turned the "re circulation" off. Sprayed half the can in the fresh air inlets under the windshield. Man the A/C drip hose was pissing harder than I ever noticed it doing before. Touched the water on the asphalt and it smelled like Lysol.

    I'm happy with the results.

I've seen YouTube reviews on this and it's a legitimate Toyota treatment kit, IF you are getting funky smells every time you initially start it up or run it for for a few minutes. It cleans out all the mold, mildew and other organics that can build up on the evaporator and closed-in housing over time due to all the moisture that forms. If it's draining ok (look under the truck for puddles) it shouldn't be an issue. I helps if you manually turn off the AC compressor and run the fan at full on outside air for a few minutes before shutting down. This heats everything up in there and helps to evaporate the moisture in there. 99% of the time I use the outside air setting so mine is good. If you're not getting the damp odors, you prob don't need to spend the money.
