So, here's my issue. I work in construction and in the morning I like to come into work and just drink my coffee in my truck 20 to 25 minutes before my shift starts. I just got this Tacoma (23' TRD Sport) traded in a Jeep Wrangler. My Jeep had a key where I could just turn the key back one click and it will go into accessory mode, I could just listen to the radio without the engine running. Now this Tacoma has a push button and if I do the same thing with the push button and just push the button once, the engine and everything shuts off and then I have to push the button once again to turn the accessory mode on and then restart my Bluetooth / Android auto. How do I get it to go into accessory mode without doing all that? There has to be a way for a smoother transition instead of restarting everything all over again. Thank you.

Also worth noting, if you’re not in the drivers seat with access to the brake and want to start the vehicle you can press start once and then again, this time holding for 10-15 seconds and it will turn over

Looks like I'll never own a new vehicle again.
    I bought the SR5 Trim ( 2021 ) because I refuse to do this push-button thing.
Daughter just bought a 2025 CrossTrek and it, as well as every other model of anything I've seen uses this Push-Button-Key-Fob thing.

The world is passing me by I suppose - I refuse to use Apple Pay.... I carry cash.
I won't pay to watch football either. In a very short few years every game will be pay-per-view, mark-my-words.

    Old school I am.

I'll buy a new vehicle with push-button-start when they pry my keys out of my cold-dead-hands.

I think I hear kids playing on your lawn. You should probably go shake your fist at them

I got no lawn, only gravel rocks and stones and cactus growing, a few rattlers roaming around too.

    Careful using this procedure.

It works, but if you are like me and use your headlights at all times you can be sitting in your truck with the radio on and unbeknownst to you your headlights are on until you open the door draining the battery. I have had to be jumped because I my lack of awareness.

considering the OP works construction, i would highly recommend one of the many compact jump starters.

i run the acmount version in all my vehicles. it's saved my butt a number of times on construction sites with dead work vans. it's also been great to just be able to toss it to any other contractor in need on the job, and not need to deal with idiots and jumper cables.

the noco brand is also highly sought after, but after using both, i can't say the quality is markedly different. my acmount seems to hold a charge for longer than my noco, but both easily start my tacoma when i leave lights on whenever needed.
