its a 4 banger and its slow. So i dont really care about speed anymore. I think im going to try and stuff some 295/70/17s under my 3" lift and make it even slower. If its going to be slow mine as well make it look sick and get more ground clearence out of it for off roading right.

    I wouldn't put a KN in.

You might get a bit more power. But you get that power from increased airflow, you get an increased airflow from KN because it has larger spacing, larger spacing equals more junk getting through into your engine.

My buddy works for finning (cat machines) and everyone there preaches about how crappy KN really is. Could be wrong but not worth the potential damages outweigh the small amount of possible gains to me.

If you want more power from airflow, take out your secondary air filter rather than substitute your primary one.

Your right things might get through...look at the spacing, what's gonna fit? Ok maybe you get a few small dust particles to get by. That's nothing combustion in your syslinder won't take care of. Something that finites not gonna cause harm

You also have to take into consideration with 295's your probably gonna regear and that'll give you some of your orginal power back if not the same

If i do end up putting 295s on im going to see how the power is first. I have seen a few people run 33/12.5 tires on a 4 banger and not regear. A 295/70/17 is only a 33.5 by 12 or 11.5. so its not really that much of a difference. I think this summer im just going to go for it and see how the truck handles and go from there.

I'm only with 265/75/16 and notice the lag, can't imagine if I go up to 295 or 305

I have 255/75/17 right now a 32" by 10.5" and i really didnt feel a power loss at all. I realy dont mind about power loss that much. As long as i can still spin my tires when i am in the dirt i am fine. and if im climbing hills while off roading i just use 4lo and can shift into 2nd.

On my subaru using a K&N panel filter always required checking the MAF sensor a few thousand miles after instaling a new filter because the oil they use on the filter would find its way into the heated filiment that hangs down on the sensor. and mess up the reading. so you have to gently clean it

if our trucks use a similar style sensor it could happen too.

i doubt if it will give any noticable gains anyway, if you want noticable gains i would go with a turbocharger haha :p

There is a build i read about on youtube where the guy removed the balance shafts from the engine (my friend did this on his old DSMs for drag racing) and gained 15+hp and torque on the dyno after this, and a full exhuast/intake etc. It was an black tacoma in the video im trying to find it. thats kind of extreme for a daily driver though.

Did you regear after you put your 33s on?

Taking out the secondary air filter seemed to help my low end quite a bit.

    It's a 4-cylinder.

It'll get you there, but it's not going to leave flaming tracks like the DeLorean from Back to the Future.

I don't expect my Matrix to scream either, just get me to/from places reliably.

Since ,say the 90s up, many people expect performance and competitive acceleration... even if they say they dont, or say you should expect it. The 2.7L I have won't compare to a 4.0, 9sec vs 6sec 0-60 roughly but i still say it performs better than it is expected too. BTW i went from a 6.6L diesel to the Tacoma, and am used to v-8s. It got BORING, w/o any towing needs, to have an auto and high hp, I'm enjoying driving again, be it street or a road trip.

Mine's kinda sluggish going up hills and accelerating in higher gears. Off the line it is pretty quick for a 4banger. If I need strong accel right away, I manually downshift the AT so it's spinning around 4k, that works great. (The AT does not like to shift down so I have to force it.) BTW what's the deal with the half-gear between 3rd and 4th? To clarify, when I get on it at highway speeds, the AT sort of shifts down but not all the way to 3rd (when I slap it into 3rd manually the revs drop further). Anyone else noticed this?

Acceleration has never been an issue with me, but I have a manual tranny. Auto trannies can make any engine's acceleration feel lackluster.
