I have a 2000 5 speed manual and the strangest thing happened to me this morning on my way to work. I was driving along as usual and let go of the gas in preparation for a stop, and my truck started speeding up a bit. My foot was completely off the gas pedal. At first, I thought it was my imagination, but it happened to me about 3 times on my 5 minute drive to work. I even noticed the engine started revving up on it's own between shifts at one point. Has anyone else experienced this? What the heck could this be?

I would check all your throttle connection & cables. Make sure nothing is 'sticking'.

Does this symptom just go away on its own? Or what have you been doing to stop it?

When it happens.... (while in Neutral), STOMP on the gas pedal hard & quick...see if that getx rid of the surge. If it does, I'm betting something in the throttle cabling setup is sticking.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't have time to do thorough troubleshooting yet, because I'm at work. Someone suggested it might be condensation in the tank/water in the gas, because it was a pretty frosty morning, but I've never had that happen before. (we get worse mornings than that).

Common sense could tell me.....condensation in the fuel lines probably won't cause the engine to surge. If anything, condensation would cause it to stumble and lack power.:confused:

If your A/C or defroster is on, then that would cause an increase in idle, when the A/C compressor kicks in.

Thanks for the info. Strange, but I haven't been able to reproduce the problem since. I'll update if it happens again.

Been a while, but thought I would update. Problem came back. Took it in and it turns out that a dirty throttle body was the culprit. Cleaned it out and replaced a flap inside. Been good ever since.

Good stuff. Usually when people post an issue they don't revisit the thread and update the solution, good job.
