My 2006 access cab worked great with a baby seat in the back. It had to be on the passenger side because I am tall and my girlfriend (at the time) was very short so she could move her seat forward easily. The factory baby seat anchors were great. It worked for our situation but YMMV.

You've got a ton of options, however if you're looking at the financials and long term, if you bought your '15 new you might be surprised at how far to the good you are in your payment plan. I'm not too sure of your commute, but I'd be willing to bet that you could sell the taco, pay cash for an older, more baby friendly truck with the difference, and get into a lower monthly payment on a kid/commute friendly ?UV.

Personally, I love my Tacoma, it fits my lifestyle perfectly, however if I were to budget $50,000 into being a 3 car family, needing an economy car, a kid friendly car, and a truck, I'd be looking at like a $7,500, $15,000, $27,500 split, with the lower number being the truck budget, and I'd cut that shorter in a heartbeat for a pre '96 F-series Club Cab 4.9 4x4 (with emphasis on the 4.9).

Hey all, I'm a little (okay a lot) late on this post, but have been hunting for the same info since I bought my Taco in '16. I was not planning to have kids, but well, it happened, AFTER I bought my dream truck. I have a 2016 Tacoma Off-Road AC. And a baby. My little guy is currently 11 months old, and I'll admit, fitting a rear-facing car-seat is a struggle if you want to have two adults in the front. I'm the primary driver for the Taco, so when it's just me and baby, it's not a problem. However, the passenger seat has to be all the way forward, and the backrest has to be completely upright. Period. So, anyone sitting the passenger seat when the infant car-seat is in, is sitting too close to the dashboard to be safe, and that's assuming they can even fit their legs in there. I'm 5ft 0in. and it's uncomfortable for me to sit in front of the car-seat.

Currently, an infant rear-facing car-seat needs anywhere from 20"-30" of depth on average. My current car-seat is 24" and it's snug.

I'm hoping once I can use a more upright, rear-facing car seat, we'll have a little extra room in the front. Otherwise, looks like it'll be a 4-door for me. I'm happy to post pics of the car seat installed if anyone is interested.

I'll also note that this is my daily-driver, hunting/camping/fishing truck, lab-cab, overall adventure-mobile, so I'm doing the daily routine with baby.

OP I'm curious, did you end up making a baby Leprechaun? And if so, did you end up making the AC work?

Keep your truck! If she can't drive it, it's because she doesn't want to. It ain't rocket science. Be thankful, your tranny will last a lot longer.

Haha....This is an old post. We still haven't had a kid yet, but have had the nephew's carseat in the access cab. It's not comfortable, but it works in pinch if we need to take him for a short ride.

I have a 2014 access cab and I just plainly refuse to get the double cab. For 2 years that they have to be rear facing I’m not gonna spend the extra 5k to get a double cab nowadays. I make it work and wife is short so I also do have that going. We prefer to take the truck places even with two kiddos because we often pick up stuff for the farm. It’s all how badly you want/need it to work. I currently have one forward facing which works really well in an AC and one rear which sucks but is definitely manageable.

I eventually traded mine for a 4Runner. The access cab worked while they were young, but they're much taller now. Mine was an 08 that didn't have the rear headrests. If I were to get rear ended, their heads would go through the rear window.
