Feb 2018 I had a Jeep TJ and 2000 Dodge Durango when I bought a 2011 AC Taco. We wanted more room than the Jeep, but not as big as the 'Rango.
Not wanting the short bed, AC was my only option. Rarely have passengers for more than an hour, so it works for us.

AC has worked for me so far........The oldest (11) is starting to complain because she doesn't "fit." I like to remind her that her uncle and I were stuffed in the '88 single cab with papa. Added the shell for dry storage.taco1.jpg

I have an SR access cab utility, no back seats I have loaded the back up from floor to back window, guarantee more capacity than a double cab storage on the back seats. I compared them both when I bought mine and chose the access cab utility long bed. A DCLB is longer wheelbase than an access cab long bed, longer turning radius.
So it all depend on what you want, but you can’t do in your DC what I do with my access utility cab, and I can’t do what you do in your DC.

I bought a double cab and kinda wish I’d went access cab. Mainly for the longer bed so I could build out a sleeping platform or just for extra storage space, while maintaining the shorter wheel base. I also realized I rarely have more than one passenger in my vehicle. The back seats in the double cab aren’t very comfortable for adults anyways for long trips. For short trips one passenger can cram in the back of the AC for a bit. If you’re thinking about having children soon AC obviously might not be the best option. All that being said, if I bought the AC I’d probably be dreaming about the DC. You always want what you don’t have I guess.

Looks like the access cab long bed and dual cab short bed have the same wheelbase and frame.
I wanted an acceess cab but I got a regular cab which wasn't a problem because I put a canopy on it. Regular cab is the short wheelbase.

Did you fold the rear seats down?

Dealer showed me all of that, fold seat, fold down back cushions. From there you got maybe a foot or so to the back window? Utility is floor to window Ive loaded on floor to where seat would have been and stacked layers on top of that without covering window. Can’t beat that. Its what I wanted.
I traded in a Double cab 2007 Colorado, and the Taco DC had less legroom, I hardly ever carried a passenger usually loaded up for travel or camping, so the access cab utility long bed with all that in the cab storage was right for me.

Got a 2020 Access cab installed a tonneau cover with a tailgate pop lock so I can easily store groceries and such without messing with opening the rear suicide doors. I use the back for storing my work stuff mostly or occasionally have my small kids back there with no complaints. Its my daily driver, great for hauling stuff, but we drive the Highlander for family outings. I have zero regrets getting the access cab— also I had a 1st gen in the 90s and loved that one too.39C8F032-D6C7-46EA-8DF5-096ABCC7F1DF.jpg

    Nothing fun yet...
I've had 2-door Jeeps, 4-door trucks, and everything in between. For me, the AC is perfect. 95% of the time I'm driving, it's just me in the truck. Occasionally I'll have 1 passenger, rarely 2, and only once in my 3 years of ownership have I had 3 passengers. The time I had 3 passengers it was a 30 minute drive and they were complaining the whole time... something along the lines of "...I feel like I'm flying on Frontier..." :plane:

It fits my needs perfectly as far as storage capacity and passenger room. Like everyone else has said, if you normally have more than 1 passenger riding with you, I strongly recommend a DC. Otherwise, AC is perfect. The extra storage over a regular cab is absolutely worth it, and AC's really are the best looking Tacos out there.

Definitely shorter, I had no option of a regular cab with my third gen. I really do prefer the access cab over anything though. A diamondback or canopy would still be an awesome choice either way but the price point is pretty steep when I've just now gotten back to work post-covid. One day hopefully!

Have you ever even seen an Access Cab Utility version that’s has no back jump seats, allowing you to load from floor up?

    Except sleep in the bed.

I've had my 2014 for 4 years now and only once had someone in the back. I've slept in the bed more times than I can remember. I get that dclb's exist but I wouldnt want the extra length for the once in 4 years I need two passengers. My 45# dog loves the size of the back with a platform . Loading groceries does suck though.

    Yep. Like mine. ;)
Some people with access cabs have done the coversion to utility, removing the jump seats to get more storage room.

I’ve had 3 people in my back seat once, they pretended to be comfortable because I was helping them move

    Amen brother.
On my third trd or/ac and I love it. Short beds are useless and a 6 ft bed on a Dbl cab is too long of a wheel base if you ever want to go OR.
I had a 11’ titan pro4x crewcab for a few years, And I do love the cab comfort of a full size truck, but I never put a bunch of stuff in the back of that cab.
Groceries? I agree the suicide doors of an access cab are a pain in the parking lot, but I don’t want anything rolling around/spilling in the cab anyhow so just get a $20 cargo net, and a tonneau, of course. A tonneau for the AC is vital imo.
The length of the rear seats and the head rest in the 2.5 gen models is much better than the 05-11’s if you do by chance need to give someone a lift in the back (I’ve had both).
But with all this said, if I had kids there’s no damn way I’d have the AC...
