I don't have any kids, all grown, just not much room back there for kids.

Never been in the back seat of one myself just looking at pics on the computer does not look like a ton of room, probably end up with the 4 door, hoping with 6 foot bed.

Had a 2007 Dakota Access cab. 3 years later traded for a Dakota full double cab. Son was 11 when I got the first one. Besides no room, the storage is much better in a double. Shopping stuff AND still room on the seats. Got the double 2014 sport last year. Fits two adults comfortably in the back.

If you are going to major off road trails, then the shorter the better. For family use and minor off road, go double with the short bed. Still fits in the garage.

ok will end up with 4 door it seems lol, need to decide between a 6 foot box now or 5 foot box and a auto or manual. I know the 4 door 6 foot bed only comes in automatic. I would like manual but my wife will be driving truck as well, and has never driven a manual before in a truck. She is nervous that she will not be comfortable, guess we will just have to test drive one.

I have a 3 and 5 y/o. One is still in a car seat. The car seats take up quite a bit of space. Even when they are older, they'll still fit. I just wouldn't keep them back there for a long road trip.

For what it's worth, I had a '98 (first gen) manual and loved it. Got a 2010 manual access cab and didn't like it at all. I don't know if it was because its a much heavier truck or what, but It just felt really different. Not at all responsive like my '98. Never thought I'd go auto, but ended up with an auto '14 double cab and like it much better.

I don't like the auto in the 2nd gen. Feels like you have to mash the peddle to get some oomph out of it.

I think double it is, will just have to decide on the auto or the manual, and find a descent price on one which seems to be hard in canada.

I bought my AC maybe a year before I had kids. If I knew, I would have bought a DC. At the point, I'm sure my frame will rot out before my kids out grow it.

I'm not sure where you are, but can you guys just cross the border, buy a vehicle, and drive it back? Not a suggestion- just wondering if by law you can do that?

Good decision on getting a double cab. Two of my grand daughters, then 9 and 12, rode in the back of the 2012 AC
that I had at the time and they were very uncomfortable.

Possibly could be done, our dollar kinda sucks right now though, had a buddy buy one while back and figured he saved about 10,000 bucks, that was when our dollar was really strong.

Double cab, if you can. I have 12 and 7 year old girls, and they didn't like the access cab we test drove. They love the double. I have a long bed and love it. Since I haul motorcycles quite a bit, a short bed was out of the question.

I am hoping to haul either a 12 foot or 10 foot boat in the back to all my fishing holes, so thinking the longer bed will help there.

Access cab won't be big enough. Plus the rear 'seats' are horribly uncomfortable. I don't have kids, but I have 2 dogs and I sold my AC to get a DC for more room. So much nicer and just more convienent to have the larger cab area.
