Hello All. This has probably been discussed before, but here goes anyway. Everyone probably knows that starting in 2009 Toyota decided to change the rear seats in the access cabs. The new ones are completely useless for me. The seats in my 2006 folded flat and made a platform that was very useful. I also had a local auto upholstery place make pad with marine grade vinyl so my dogs could ride comfortably in the cab. I wanted that same set-up in my new 2016, so I made a modification. Below are photos of the modification. I removed the jump seats and rear console and built a platform out of 3/4 inch birch/blondewood. I used the existing seatbelt and jumpseat anchor points to secure the platform. I covered it in black speaker box carpet. The entire project was less than $100. Let me know what you think.

It looks good for a 3/4 inch birch/blondewood covered in speaker box carpet mod, but more functional for dogs, cargo etc. You probably will be able to organize gear a whole lot easier....

    Nice,

Yeah Toyota needs to realize how many people haul pets and gear and not kids back there. Lol...

Thanks. My thoughts exactly. If I wanted passenger seats, I would've bought a 4-door.

I completely agree with you! I had same issue when I dumped my 2007 and got 2013. Nice mod and thanks for sharing!

Works great for going back and forth to the range, I pulled those worthless headrest out :)

What's the secret to getting the headrests out? I broke 2 of the anchors and decided to give it a rest.

tomwil. I though about that, but I have 2 dogs and didn't want them to ride in the floorboards. I can get that platform out in 3 minutes. I also thought about accessing the storage bins, but didn't get into them all that much in my 2006.

I guess I got lucky not breaking any anchors removing the panels trying to get to my headrests, I was just real careful popping them loose, I like it much better with them removed.

Here`s a pic of my rear seats removed with a 2nd battery

Not a bad spot for batt box. How did you mount it? Temp or perm mount?

Hey Reno61 as 2016BBP it just requires a little luck :) Fortunately for me I had bought one of those factory plastic clip kits so whenever I pull somthing apart I can inspectet for cracked and missing clips ane replace them with new ones.

Also, I opted to do what some did earlier in the thread. I left the seat pads on and made my platforms in two pieces, 5min in and out if need be. I used Home Depot generic trailer carpet (super cheap and easy to work with:)) To avoid mistake make a cardboard template, as other have said. Good Luck.....This is one of the most functional and cheapest up dates I've ever done

    1D2X_0006_zpsex6vn50e_c077b1ad2312cc27b418750ea254cb950d28b3a6.jpg

Oooops one minor detail :) Don't forget to slide both your seats ALL the way back when you start making your template.

Option package "BZ" - it's not a dealer installable thing, it has to come from the factory like that. A little tough to find in some areas.

Takes $1700 OFF the MSRP. I love mine.:D

Be aware that you do also lose some other things- namely rear door speakers and painted front/rear bumpers.

Reno61, I like your platform. I am heading in the same direction, although I think I would like to hinge the platform so I can easily access the storage underneath. I removed the seats and panels down to sheet metal and have a full rear panel (used) headed my way.

As for the rear panel, check this thread:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-ac-rear-seat-delete-panel.430558/

I believe Toyota sells them for $425ish.

Painted rear bumper is dependent upon the truck being equipped with the Premium & Technology Package.

Gotcha. I know mine isn't painted, and I figured it was because of the utility package.

I actually got my front bumper sprayed to match because I didn't really like the look of it. Unpainted rear bumper looks fine to me though.
