Is there a youtube or something on how to modify an OEM roof rack and install on 2009 access cab ? I have a new rack and a machine shop so a little guidance will go a long way with me. Thanks

Yakima also has option in between the round bars and whisperbars, the core bar. I had the q towers and round bar before and the core bar system is a lot quieter and cheaper than the whisperbars

Yea I ain't liking this at all. $170 cut in half and put back together. I ain't doing it if it don't look right. Already got headliner out sitting on floor in shop. Got the rivnuts and tool free from a shop I help out. Sooooo I might be pizzed away this $170 and have to go to something else. I started putting it back together with some solid aluminum square stock 3/8" thick, laid in the underside troughs and poured some ( TV ) Flex Seal in on top. I wanted it to stay together but have a little give to see how it fit. Thats twice I've used that Flex Seal chit and it don"t stick worth a &#$%. I tried to coat a pair of pliers handles and it pealed right off. Same with these roof racks. So I clamped them up with the alum stock wet some fiber cloth with epoxy laid it in there after pouring some epoxy then poured some more epoxy. We shall see if they get canned or put on. I did a lot of reading about insulating the roof, but there were quite a few different products used. One not even available on Amazon any longer. Ghost Ship, if you had to do it over again what would you use? Same stuff? Also one more question, whats the chance of the airbag deploying if you move it some? What about removing them? Hell I'm old , I've lived without them side bags my whole life. I am skeered about drilling over them and they go off leaving me with a top hat roof. Anyway my truck looks rough right now . Thanks for all the great advice and inputs.

Can you move airbags without setting them off? Or drop them temporarily without disconnecting them ?

    FYI
If searching Thule for a fit kit for the 2nd gen Tacoma Access Cab....
Thule uses the term "Extended Cab".
Quote from Thule CS Supervisor in 2016.
There was a time they said it did NOT fit.

I have a set of Thule bars on my ‘09 Access cab and love them. They are very handy for hauling canoes and with the goal post trail hitch rack very long lumber. Load bars that slide into the bar tubes make loading an easy one person task. With the bars I can get nine kayaks on the truck and with the goal post 16’ long lumber.

How are DIY roof racks mounted on Access cabs? I am not excited about the mounts that lip over and grip the top of the door frame opening. Are there recessed nuts under the black rooftop trim? I Am thinking of the 8020 system. Thanks.

    Welcome.
A link above is an option.
I like the Thule on mine. Easily removed.

Yes I did it. It was a P.I.T.A. close encounter to some air bags, had a leak that was a pain to finally get stopped. Personally I wouldn't do it again. But I said the same thing about marriage. LOL

Has anyone tried shortening a double cab factory roof rack to fit onto an access cab?
